Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Art to all ages and abilities.
This includes arts and crafts to younger children who enjoy the more messy, imaginative kind of creativity, as well as painting and drawing to adults who might also enjoy that. I have enabled students to gain confidence in using a variety of media such as oil painting, or pastel drawing and can offer support to those who want to enjoy painting as a leisure activity or who may wish to pursue more serious goals. I can assist with portfolio preparation and interview skills for entry to Fine Art courses. (As a qualified and experienced EFL teacher, this also may be useful for students whose first language is not English).
I also teach EFL to students of all levels and abilities.
This includes assisting students with general conversation (listening and speaking skills), English to help with work situations, or for specific exams such as IELTS. I'm also able to help with essay writing and proof reading for students on various courses or who need help with application forms.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA Hons in Fine Art from Oxford University and am in the middle of a HIgher Diploma in History of Art at Birkbeck University.
I also have a CELTA certificate which enables me to teach English as a Foreign Language to Adults.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have many years experience of tutoring and teaching children and adults in various contexts. This includes afterschool clubs, art facilitating on various projects in museums and schools, and as an EFL teacher for over 10 years in language schools and as a private language tutor.
How much do you charge?
I charge from £15 - £25 for Art tuition (depending on age) and £20 per/hour for EFL. If you are interested in group lessons then add £10 for each extra person.
I also offer a 50 minute free trial lesson for EFL teaching so that the student can see if they feel comfortable with me.
If it takes me longer than 30 minutes travel time, or involves a train fare, I do charge travel costs. This can be discussed on a case to case basis.
Where do you teach?
I can teach at my home or students. I live right by Kilburn tube station on the Jubilee line, and have a clean, quiet space in which to study or take art lessons.
When are you available?
I'm available days, evenings and weekends with good notice period. School holidays are also OK.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I love teaching from ages 5 upwards.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Drawing from the Human Figure
One piece of advice I think is important for all budding artists is to draw from the human figure. Points to Consider how tone informs form. Unless its a line drawing (in pencil), the relationships of tones within the body are as important if not more than the...
