About Charlotte
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching privately for about five years and I have taught all ages and all abilities. I enjoy building a strong foundation of technique in all beginners that will give a good grounding on your instrument at whatever level you choose to play to. Most of my students have taken exams but some have just enjoyed learning the instrument. As well as teaching privately I also work in education within schools (primary, secondary and special needs) leading workshops and participating in outreach projects.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have not required a CRB yet, I can get one if requested.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am currently working as a freelance double bassist with the London Philharmonic, BBC Concert, and English National Ballet orchestras, as well as a Principal trial with the Ulster Orchestra. I have performed with various chamber ensembles in the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Wigmore Hall. I have recorded film and chamber music sessions in Abbey Road, Air, and Angel studios.

I am a professional musician working in London. As well as teaching, I work freelance as a classical double bassist. If you're looking to have fun learning about technique and musicianship in a friendly environment then do get in touch.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach classical double bass (french bow) to any level, I also teach violin from beginners level to about grade 5/6.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied the violin before taking up the double bass and studying both as a young adult. I studied the double bass at the Guildhall School of Music, achieving a BMus (hons) and a MMus in performance.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 for a 30 minute lesson and £40 for one hour. 45 minute sessions are possible, the fee will depend on the distance.
- Where do you teach?
I will travel to you for lessons, this seems to suit most students as the bass can be awkward to transport. I live in North London but can move around, If you are unsure If your area will be too far, please ask and I'll see what I can do.
- When are you available?
I am quite flexible with my times to teach, excluding Fridays and Sundays. I can also give extra tuition before exams and in the school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach all ages!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare you for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall. I can also provide coaching for auditions, and academic performances (GSCE, AS and A2).
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
We can have lessons through skype if you prefer, though I find tuition in person to be more effective.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
My lessons have a fun and relaxed atmosphere with a real focus on technique and musicianship. I find teaching enjoyable and rewarding and I want my students to enjoy the experience too!
