About Patricia

- What kind of experience do you have?

Over 10 years experience in university education, and around 10 years clinical teaching. I have also worked in the commercial sector and am currently working as a research fellow.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Not currently, most recent one expired last year.

- Where and with whom did you train?

University of London, University of Cambridge, Canterbury Christ Church University

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

International Society of Complementary Medicine Research
Royal College of Nursing
Mental Health Nurses Association

- Tell me about some of your current students.

My last group of students achieved mainly higher degrees, barring one or two who had difficult personal circumstances. They also achieved good marks, which is a credit to them, and later went on to complete their degrees. Many started their course with little confidence in their academic ability and some learning problems.

I am a very experienced tutor and have had a lot of success with students at university level, particularly those struggling with a poor educational start, academic skills and learning impediments, such as dyslexia.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Specialist subjects are mental health, law, policy, anthropology, social policy, ethics and philosophy, evidence for complementary medicines, including herbal medicine and acupuncture, scientific approach and research methodology, how to critique studies and structure written work.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

PhD, MSc, PCMedEd, RMN

- How much do you charge?

I charge £30/hour and am happy to see students two at a time, if they feel they can learn with each other. I am happy to travel short distances, no more than 30 minutes or use the internet/telephone for classes. I will charge for travel (45p/mile) and a small amount for travel time if it impacts on other work.

- Where do you teach?

Students are very welcome to come to my home for tuition. I use the internet for much of my research and have a good connection for use in teaching if required. I live near Hereford and can access the Breacons, Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Abergavenny and Bromyard relatively easily.

- When are you available?

Availability is flexible during the day and early evenings.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

Older teenagers who are thinking about going to university and want some help improving their written work and grades. University students up to PhD.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I have a good generalist background, and quite wide knowledge of academic standards around the world, as well as specific for the UK. I know a good deal about grants available and alternative paths to qualifications and degrees, so can help people who are thinking about a range of subjects or careers. I am networked with other professions, and can direct you to a more suitable person to help when necessary.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Good internet connection for use of skype, face time, of face book messenger.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

If you are really keen to improve, I can do a short piece of work with you to help you understand how to approach your work so that you can improve and continue to do so in the future.
