- What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience teaching toddlers to the elderly, both in an individual setting as well as a workshop situation. Through working at Salford Music service, the Music In Hospitals scheme, my own extensive private teaching and performance experience, I believe I can take on pupils of all standards and musical backgrounds. With my chamber music ensembles I am used to working with a variety of young people and giving introductory lessons in large groups. I come from a family of musicians and music teachers and was brought up immersed in teaching conversations and lessons.

I am a professional freelance musician and teach the flute and music theory primarily but am also experienced in decant recorder tuition.
I also tutor academic English at GCSE level and Music at both GCSE and A level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I currently work for Salford Music Service, where I teach individual and class instrumental tuition in primary schools as well as teaching at the renowned Loreto Sixth form college in Hulme. I have a total of 9 regular weekly private pupils and would happy to take any new keen pupil on board.
I have a Masters in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music. In this institution I won performances prizes such as the Pat Barney Flute Prize, was a finalist in the Gold Medal Soloist Competition (2013) and won the Wind Chamber Music Prize with the June Emerson Wind Prize in addition.
At the University of Manchester I studied on the academic Music course, specialising in performance, composition, aesthetics and Shostakovich studies. I was the principal flute of the symphony orchestra and broadened my musical knowledge with the academia of the three year course.
I was awarded an A in both English and Music A Levels.

For lessons I charge:
£15 per half hour
£30 per hour
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home in my flat in Didsbury.
- When are you available?
I teach on a Monday evening and Saturday morning .
I take Christmas/New Year off and the summer break but give my young students the option to have term time lessons to fit in with family arrangements in holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy teaching all ages, all levels and all musical backgrounds - music is for everyone!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
With my students we discuss what they want from their lessons and why they are learning music. All cases are indervisudal!
If a student wishes to take exams then I will work with them towards ABRSM Grades (Associated Board of the Roal Schools of Music).
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Music is one of the most rewarding pastimes and hobbies, for me it became a life choice that I love daily. It leads you to new friends, experiences and is another string to your bow when applying for universities and jobs.
I have so much enthusiasm to share and high quality training and experience to pass on. I absolutely love teaching and the challenges it brings and would love to take on new students!

I love the lessons they're GREAT. She teaches me lots and I get better and better .The tips Jennifer writes in my notebook are the thing that helps me how to play the flute and to position your body. She has her grade 8 singing. She can play the piano, flute and clarinet. Also, the lessons are FUN!!!!!. Soon in July I am going to take my grade 1 test and I hope to get a distinction!!
YAY!!!Since working with Jenny Dyson, I have noticed that my confidence in music increased. Jenny was patient and willing to go over any areas that I struggled with, helping motivate me. She incorporates all aspects of the practical element to your lesson and meets your individual needs. I have enjoyed working with Jenny, I feel she is very approachable, understanding and flexible, you feel comfortable; all your inhibitions leave the room once you start your lesson. I would highly recommend her as a teacher.
My daughter, Arwen, has been attending lessons with Jennifer for six months now. In that time Arwen's flute playing has progressed beyond all recognition. It's now a pleasure to hear Arwen practice. Jennifer has a real enthusiasm for music and that is transferred to her students. I rarely have to prompt Arwen to practice and when it's lesson time I've never had to tell Arwen twice to get her flute and music books ready. We are lucky to have such a talented teacher.
