About Heppy

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have a vast performing career covering many genres from playing in a Frank Zappa tribute band to principal flute in symphony orchestras.

In terms of teaching, I have taught all age ranges privately from four year olds to adults. (Please note, children under the age of six are subject to a suitability assessment during a half-price consultancy lesson!)

I currently teach privately, and in schools and music centres in association with Roundhay Music and YMES.
I have taught in group formats, lead ensembles and rehearsals and I have recently been involved in teaching workshops as part of Opera North's outreach work. I am also an experienced accompanist - dealing with everything from choirs to primary school nativities, and I often accompany my flute pupils in their lessons and exams.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes - I always have it handy during consultancy lessons so parents can see it if they wish.

- Where and with whom did you train?

During my time studying at Leeds College of Music, I studied flute with Martyn Shaw, and piano with Mark Fritton. I have also had masterclasses with Kevin Gowland of Opera North, Wissam Boustany and Lis Parry.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

M is a very gifted musician, she plays piano with an expression far beyond her twelve years of age. She's such a chatterbox! T has a brilliant sense of humour, she learns new notes on her flute so quickly, and always giggles when she plays a wrong note. E is passionate about jazz piano, and learns by ear, he's a great improviser and loves learning new material. D has just bought a new flute, and using it to make a beautiful tone. J is four years old, and my youngest pupil. She is learning the piano very quickly and loves to sing and clap along when we learn songs together.

(I've changed initials to protect my pupil's identities)
