About Nicolas
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been playing the guitar for over 15 years, specialising in classical and flamenco styles on the nylon-string guitar, and have a Grade 8 in classical guitar. I am thus also able to teach sight-reading and basic music theory, for which I have a Grade 5. I am also happy to cover any other fingerpicking styles, and have a broad knowledge of popular and world music, including Indian and West African musics. I am also an experienced singer, and often integrate aspects of singing and vocalisation into my instrumental teaching, since these can often be replicated and understood more readily whilst students are still developing the specific muscles required to play their instrument.
My years of both learning and teaching the guitar have given me an insight into a variety of teaching styles, and I am happy to encourage and push students according to their needs and desires. I have a range of useful exercises and other materials at my disposal, in order to provide a structured, varied and rewarding learning experience. I place an emphasis on avoiding the dogmatic approach usually associated with learning classical music, covering tricky elements such as technique in ways in which the student can quickly appreciate results in their regular playing.

- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained in Leeds under the eminent classical guitarist Robin Hill, as well as studying jazz vocals at Leeds College of Music, under Kari Bleivik. I have also received lessons from Indian classical guru Jesse Bannister, also of Leeds College of Music.
