About Hannah
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have a wide range of teaching experience. I have been teaching both privately and in schools for many years: I currently teach at Newland House School and have a base of private pupils in Richmond, I also teach from home in Clapham Junction. I teach students of a wide range of ages and abilities, and enjoy exploring the different approaches this requires. My teaching experience includes preparation for and entrance to ABRSM exams, in which my pupils have achieved good results. I also have experience tutoring on music courses and summer schools, including Dartington International Summer School. Wider education experience includes teaching in The Mathieson Music School in Kolkata, India and education projects with the Vector Wellington Orchestra, New Zealand.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
At the Royal College of Music with Amanda Truelove (LSO), also lessons with Michal Kaznowski of the Maggini Quartet, Sandy Bailey, Pierre Doumenge and Robert Cohen.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently have a wide range of students, and this is one of the things that I love about teaching: every student requires a different approach. Beginners are often really fun to teach, everything is exciting and new – every step is an achievement. Pupils who are very young express their excitement openly and our lessons remind me how enjoyable it is to learn. I also teach adults, and this process is very different: adults are obviously less used to developing new skills, but they understand what they are achieving and appreciate the complexity of what they are beginning to do. I always especially enjoy the satisfaction of a beginner adult in their progress. Of course, pupils at a more advanced stage also experience this satisfaction, and it is gratifying to teach a student who enjoys working hard for an exam or a concert. This stage also presents an opportunity to teach the student about performance; the communication which is essential to music, and the excitement of exploring the music itself. For me, teaching is about finding ways to understand your student, and to stimulate their interests as well as guiding them forwards. Teaching a teenager, for example, requires recognition of their priorities and sympathy towards their experience of life. Your role as a teacher is to value the student for who they are, and I have always found that a trusting relationship is of great benefit to both student and teacher.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am a freelance cellist living in London, and combine a busy performing career with outreach and education work as well as individual teaching. I studied cello and piano at the Royal College of Music, and currently perform with a variety of orchestras and chamber groups - please have a look at my short biography for further details of this work. Some of my favourite projects are with the Live Music Now scheme, a charity set up by Yehudi Menuhin which enables young professionals to perform to disadvantaged groups of people, such as those in SEN schools or older people. I think that communication is where the joy of music lies and this is equally true of performing and educating. I find teaching an extremely rewarding experience.

I have known Hannah for 5 years in her role as teacher for my 3 boys. She has been very patient and helpful, preparing the boys for school performances/exams, when they have wanted to go down this route. She is always reliable and very encouraging and provides regular feedback. Hannah also organises concerts for her students, providing an opportunity to perform in a friendly environment. I would recommend Hannah as a teacher. As we are soon to leave the UK we will miss Hannah's visits with our family.
My 12-year-old daughter has been having piano lessons with Hannah Morrow for 5 years and is now beginning to prepare for her Grade 4. She is happy to be taught by someone who is young, creative and understanding. Hannah has encouraged her to work at a good pace and to develop her musicality. From the beginning, she has been given beautiful music to play and strong foundations to build on. I am delighted with the results.
Clare Farrow (Writer and Editor)Hannah Morrow has been our daughter's piano teacher for the last five years. She is and has always been reliable, punctual, kind and inspiring to our daughter and generally a delight to have around. She expects diligence and high standards and she gets them. She has enthused our teenage daughter and given her a love of music in addition to that of Capital fm!
Thanks so much for your brilliant teaching and encouragement!
