About HELEN ( HAOLING )
- What kind of experience do you have?
I was a highly-valued trainer in Foreign Language Department and Business Department in Liaoning University, China from 2007 to 2012. I worked for the most prestigious training academy in China- New Oriental Educational Group, Beijing, from 2006 to 2012, with clients/students being university students pursuing further education in the UK, BMW Headquarter managers, Rolls-Royce production managers and internatioinal five star hotel personnel. I started a business consultancy in 2010 with a 2 year on-going corporation/ training with BMW in China before I moved to Bradford-on-Avon and settled down in the UK. I have been tutoring Mandarin Chinese in the local area and enjoying it thoroughly. I value each individual's advantages and believe role-plays and loads of encouragement are vital in speaking a foreign language. Each lesson means a learning opportunity for me to explore pupils' needs, to understand and always improve.

I do have an up to date DBS Certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained with New Oriental Educational Group in Beijing, China, in 2006 to become a high level teacher and business trainer.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of Institute of Linguists, and also a member of Chopstick Clubs in London. Chopsticks clubs provides the most practical network building for businesses and individuals with an interest in China.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I am teaching a few primary school children who thrive in learning.
I have university students from Bath University and some very keen pupils from King Edwards School Bath and Prior Park College, as well as St-Laurence School in Bradford on Avon. As for adult students I have bank managers and hotel managers for regular lessons. It is rewarding to gain students' trust and be able to pass on skills they require with passion and an open mind to learn from them at all times.

Teaching and learning go both ways. Having been a passionate language and academic skills teacher, and a business trainer over the last 12 years in China, Singapore, Greece, UK and Switzerland, I have learned so much from my students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach all levels of Mandarin Chinese in the UK, with pupils ranging from primary school children to high level business managers.
I include Science and Maths in my lessons. Students find it fun and challenging, each class is filled with genuine laughter.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Bachelor Degree in Economics, the rest of my teaching skills were obtained during years of valuable experience in classrooms on-site, I have proven to be a proactive, considerate teacher who can pack tons of fun stuff into teaching, as well as passing on solid skills. References on request.
I am currently working towards Education and Training Award Level 3 and Education and Training Diploma Level 5.
- How much do you charge?
I normally charge £24 for an hour's lesson and I teach locally most of the time.
Should travel time be required and it is outside BA15 area (for example if it is in Bath) I would charge an extra £15 for a lesson if students require me to go to their homes in Bath.
For group lessons, charges varies based on the number of students in one lesson. 2 students -- £12/hr each. 3 students -- £ 8/hr each. 4 students--£6/hr each.
For children under 5, £10/hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home or at students' homes if they live nearby. I live in Bradford-on-Avon, a beautiful little historic town in Wiltshire. This place always has something to offer, on each of all these days on the calendar. I enjoy living here with my family, many thanks to tons of friends and their timeless support. Teachers, mums, dads, pupils.
I am willing to travel locally. But for a lesson in Reading or London, minimum hours for a lesson is 2. Clients are suggested to pay for travel cost and an extra £20 for travel time.
- When are you available?
Preferabally during the week, day time or evenings. Very occasional weekend lessons for local pupils within Bath and Bradford-on-Avon area.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
From 4 years old children, to adults all ages.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am confident to prepare students for GCSE up to university.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I prefer Skype, it is easy to use and has good quality.
But if you have other gadgets that are better, I am open to new things.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
You are unlikely ever to sound like a Native Chinese Speaker, because no one would want you to. You will always have a little accent in your Chinese speaking - be very proud of it. That's who you are and what makes each of you unique. Be confident - no one will laugh at your broken Chinese, just as I know, no one laughs at my broken English.
