Regular freelance performer with variety of orchestras; chamber music recitals in and around London and at festivals around UK and beyond.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

My cellist journey has taken me into contact with many wonderful people from whom I have learned many different things. My best teachers have been my students so I thank each and every one of them for the gifts they have given me. My formal studies as detailed above included work with Anna Shuttleworth; Naomi Butterworth and Melissa Phelps. Through my Suzuki teacher training I have learned a lot from working with and observing teachers from the international circuit including Carey Beth Hockett (USA); Christine Livingstone (UK); Pam Devenport (USA) and Ruben Riviera (France). I continue to learn a lot from working with many wonderful and inspiring colleagues here in London and beyond in a variety of teaching and performing environments.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Incorporated Society of Musicians; European Strings Teachers Association; London Cello Society; British Suzuki Institute; London Suzuki Group

- Tell me about some of your current students.

All current home studio students started learning with me between the ages of 4-6 years old; many have now been with me for up to ten years! The home practice has a real 'family' feel to it and we value the importance of learning from each other in group settings as well as in our individual lessons. We do large group classes a couple of times a year in addition to our regular lessons. Most students play with other musicians on a regular basis in some sort of group activity. Many of the current students are now working at grade 7-8 levels; there are also a group working at around grade 5 level and another group of beginners aged 4-6 years old who are working with the Suzuki philosophy, so with the parent-teacher-child triangular relationship being central to our work and parents involved actively in the lessons and learning process. Regular listening is strongly encouraged; all students are trained to read music too and most participate in wider musical communities both at school and beyond.

I believe in the ability of every child to develop to their highest potential when the right support networks are in place to help them flourish and develop. "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited." Dr Shinichi Suzuki
