About Jamie
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching the cello and coaching for over 12 years. I taught cello and coached chamber music for three years at Oakfield Preparatory School in Dulwich and I teach privately all age groups including adults; I coach students in chamber music and orchestral repertoire; I give cello master classes. I am a freelance musician, busy with a variety of orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra, and musical theatre including West End shows. I have played with many chamber groups and performed solo recitals in the UK and abroad.

- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with David Strange at the Junior Royal Academy of Music and then I was a scholar at the Purcell School and Entrance Scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, London. I studied for 5 years with William Pleeth in my teens and then with Robert Cohen; Paul Watkins; Lionel Handy; Jenny Ward-Clarke (baroque cello) as an undergraduate and Mats Lidström as a post graduate. I have experienced Masterclasses with Ralph Kirshbaum, Arto Noros, Timothy Hugh, Alexander Baillie, Steven Doane, Alexander Baillie, Emma Ferrand and Colin Carr. I also study privately with Moray Welsh.

I currently have several private students, ranging from children beginners to adults wanting to start playing again.

I have been very fortunate to have studied with some of the world renowned cello professors in top music establishments. Because of this I feel I have a unique understanding of cello playing and enjoy passing on my knowledge to my students.

Cello and chamber music
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Royal Academy of Music: BMus ; LRAM (teacher); PG Diploma in Performance (distinction); DipRAM
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 for 45-minute lessons (young students) and £30 per hour (older students and adults)
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Willesden Green and I also travel to students’ homes in most areas of London.
- When are you available?
Any time or day can be negotiated.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages from age four to adults at all levels from beginners to college entrance.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for ABRSM exams up to Grade 8 and Diploma, or any other syllabus (eg Guildhall and Trinity) and college entrance.
