About Jayne

- What kind of experience do you have?

Law

I have been Subject Leader for Law at a large London college, providing a high standard of teaching across A-level, BTEC, Access, CILEX and Undergraduate Law. I combine my legal knowledge with my love of teaching to help both young learners and adults to achieve success in their legal studies.

I am also an examiner for the OCR awarding body which I have found highly beneficial in gaining an inside knowledge of how to get the best possible results in exams.

I am confident that I will be able to provide useful guidance and support both throughout the course of your learning and in helping you to consolidate and revise at exam time. I am very experienced in helping learners to 'get to grips' with the demands of legal modules and have supported my students in exam preparation, coursework research and dissertation writing, to name but a few areas.

English and Tefl

I am a CELTA qualified English tutor who has recently co-authored an English textbook, which has helped me to refine my approach to teaching the subject and become extremely familiar with all major specifications.

I have a great deal of experience of teaching English, both in mainstream education and to speakers of foreign languages. I am happy to teach all levels, and can cover all aspects of English including grammar, reading, speaking & listening and writing skills, speaking and functional language. I have taught GCSE, Functional Skills and Certificates in English and can confidently teach pathways leading to any of these qualifications. I have successfully taught English to both young children, teenagers and adult learners.

My aim is to help you to improve your confidence when using English in many academic and 'real life' situations and to achieve any goals you may have.

Government and Politics

I have a great deal of experience in teaching Politics to A-level classes and on a one-to-one basis. I believe that Politics should be exciting and relevant; I have a real passion for this subject and specialised in Constitutional Law during my undergraduate degree.

Study Skills

As a private tutor I am often asked to help my students improve their study skills, both as a stand alone and in combination with an academic subject. I have taught study skills professionally for several years and can offer assistance in essay/dissertation writing, research skills, note taking, evaluative skills and report writing.

I also have plenty of experience in dissertation and coursework proof reading and editing.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

English

A vastly experienced female tutor specialising in Law, English, Politics and Study Skills in the Brighton area.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Law, Politics, English and Study Skills.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I graduated with a First Class Honours in my Law degree, and went on to study the Master's level Legal Practice Course at London's BPP Law School. I also qualified as an English teacher, gaining a Pass B and 'Above Standard' in my CELTA qualification.

I am currently working towards my DTTLLS qualification and have received some lovely feedback about my practical teaching observations.

I recently became a qualified Assessor and was commended on my positive, clear and constructive manner of giving feedback. This is a skill which I aim to bring to each tuition session.

I also recently qualified in Dyslexia Support, giving me a fantastic insight into tutoring learners with specific learning difficulties and helping them to develop the strategies they need to excel in their chosen subject area.

- How much do you charge?

My rates include all preparation, follow up and travelling time and vary depending on level and subject:

Undergraduate Law: £35 p/h
A-level studies: £30 p/h
GCSE: £25 p/h
Study Skills: £25 p/h
Younger than GCSE: £20 p/h

I also offer a discount for bulk booking.

- Where do you teach?

I am able to offer tuition from my home office in Hanover, Brighton.

I am also willing to travel to my students' homes in the Brighton area including Hove, Preston Park, Falmer, Woodingdean, Kemp Town, Hollingbury, North Laine, Moulsecoomb, Seven Dials etc. Alternatively I can tutor at a mutually convenient workspace or library.

For those outside the Brighton and Hove locale, I am highly experienced in providing tuition support via both Skype, email and phone.

- When are you available?

With the exception of Sundays, my availability is flexible. I am happy to work with each individual student to agree the best time and day to work together. I can teach weekdays, evenings and weekends.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

When teaching Law, I specialise in A-level, Access and Undergraduate tuition to young adults and adults.

When teaching English, I have been lucky enough to gain experience over the years of working with younger learners, young adults and adult learners, up to GCSE level. I thoroughly enjoy the diversity that teaching across multiple levels brings.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

When tutoring online, I always ensure that I maximise session time by sharing resources in advance to enable the tutee to prepare and submit any specific questions. I am happy to tutor either via Skype (which obviously allows a much more 'hands on', spontaneous approach) or, if a more flexible approach is required, via email.

In the latter scenario, the learner would usually send me a particular piece of work with which they are struggling and I would provide clear and constructive feedback to enable them to make amendments to fulfil their potential. Alternatively, I would set pieces of work (and provide supporting resources) for the learner to complete in their own time and submit to me for feedback.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I have a genuine love of teaching which I have been told is evident in my classes. I enjoy building rapport with my students and personalising their lessons to ensure that they achieve the required learning outcomes whilst remaining fully engaged in the learning process. I believe that my patient and enthusiastic approach and passion for the subject matter make me suited to teaching and tutoring, along with my approachable and friendly nature and familiarity with key syllabi.

I can provide testimonials and references upon request.
