About Jon

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have worked as an actor for over 25 years in a variety of genres. In the West End, I have appeared in 'Les Miserables'; 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'Leonardo' and 'Kiss of the Spiderwoman'. In Canada I worked professionally as a Union (Equity) actor in theatres across the country including productions of 'The 39 Steps', 'The Woman in Black', 'A Christmas Carol', 'Into the Woods', The Chronicles of Narnia' and 'Trashman's Dilemma'.

I also directed for LTP in Canada, working on 'Sexy Laundry' and running their Youth Theatre, outreach programs for seniors interested in drama and working with at risk youth on dramatizing their own lives. Also in Canada, I taught a series of master-classes at University of Toronto, was a tutor at Brock University teaching their specific course on the works of George Bernard Shaw (Shaw: Manners and Mandate), and for Niagara College I co-created and team-taught the credit courses 'You Are Your Voice' and 'Acting For Life'. In the UK, I have also appeared at reps and in tours around the country in a variety of productions including 'The Stationmaster'; 'Wuthering Heights', 'Let My People Come', 'Guys and Dolls', 'Uncle Vanya', 'The Rivals', 'Promises Promises' and many more! I am one of the founder members of 'The WestEnders', and continue to tour throughout Europe in their show 'The World's Most Popular Musicals'. For BBC Radio, I co-created, co-wrote and played half the characters (!) in two seasons of 'The Adventures of PG Woodlouse'. For CBC Radio in Canada, I played Johnathan Nicholby in season 3 of the multi-award winning drama 'Afghanada'. For digital station Oneword Radio I hosted and appeared in numerous programmes including 'Pocket Shakespeare', 'The Great Detectives' and my own show 'Late Night Stories with Jon Osbaldeston'.

I also wrote the play 'Hard as Nails', which won Best New Play at London Writers Competition and was produced in LA by Moving Arts Theatre Company. In the UK, I have facilitated at primary school on drama projects, and have a small and select group of private students.

I believe passionately in training and education for actors. I also believe that a judicious mixture of training in combination with real experience from working professionals is a must for any actor of any age preparing to enter the profession.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I work on monologues, driven by an approach utilising a variety of techniques from the actor's toolbox in preparation for drama school auditions: advice on which pieces to choose, plays to read, vocal coaching, physical and emotional truth.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I hold a BA (Hons) from Rose Bruford College and also studied at Texas Tech University as an International Scholarship student on the MFA (fast track Phd), program in Playwriting.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £35 per hour for teaching. If I have to travel to you in the London area I am happy to do that...and the fee stays the same!

- Where do you teach?

I teach one day a week from a good sized, comfortable office in north Battersea. Very accessible from Vauxhall, Stockwell, Clapham Junction and on many major bus routes also. The room is long and light. There is a small kitchen area and separate male and female washrooms. I am happy to travel to students' homes to teach, especially with the central London and south west London areas.

- When are you available?

My private teaching day in my own space is on a Monday. Students who wish me to travel to their own homes enjoy more flexibility with times and days - depending upon my own professional commitments.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I prefer to teach from 16 upwards.
