About Jonathan

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have taught piano at Birmingham Conservatoire (Junior and Senior), Tudor Hall School in Banbury and various institutions. I have also taught violin and languages - English as a foreign language whist living in Spain and Spanish now I'm back in the UK!

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

No, but I am happy to get one.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained under many different teachers at various institutions as a scholarship student of many years and benefitted from the different styles of teaching offered - helping me to be open minded about various teaching techniques as well as enjoying learning with all of them.

My languages training was at International House on a CELTA course.

I love teaching and playing the piano having done so for many years. I perform regularly as a classical pianist and as a 'Piano Showman' at various venues and all the major cruise lines. Besides the piano, I teach TEFL and Spanish!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Piano, Violin, Music Theory, Spanish, TEFL (English as a foreign language).

- Tell me about your qualifications.

BMus (Hons) 1st class at Birmingham Conservatoire, DPS Commendation at Birmingham Conservatoire, Postgraduate Performers Diploma at Franz Liszt Academy, Weimar. Postgraduate Perfomers Diploma at Franz Liszt Academy, Budapest.
ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction - Piano
ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction - Violin
Trinity Grade 4 Classical Guitar
Guildhall Grade 6 Voice
CELTA - Teaching English as foreign language

- How much do you charge?

For beginners, half an hour is usually adequate as long as you do a little practice every day! I am happy to offer an introductory lesson free of charge for students new to the piano.

- Where do you teach?

I teach from home in Stratford upon Avon and at students homes and am willing to travel to Warwick, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Cotswolds and up to 1 hour by car as long as costs are covered or there are multiple students such as family members or friends living nearby. Warwickshire, West Midlands, Gloucestershire are all nearby.

- When are you available?

I am available at any time of the day or evening, 7 days a week!

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I love teaching all ages and levels from beginner through to Diploma and University level.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

ABRSM exams are a useful tool to monitor progress and have something tangible as recognition for hard work! However, I have had many students - adults, in particular who love learning without feeling the need for formal exams.

I have prepared students for Grades 1-8 and Diplomas.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I have limited experience tutoring on-line but I had one student who wanted lessons this way. It was fun and luckily we both had a good internet connection!

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Learning to play piano can be fun and rewarding which is a big part of my lessons. The same applies to learning languages - fun and progression together!
