About Julian
- What kind of experience do you have?
After a public exam I obtained the position of Flute teacher at Majadahonda Council Music School (Madrid) in 1993. Four years later I obtained again after a public exam, the position of principal flute at the Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid while working on a thesis at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
I have taught flute through workshops and masterclasses in relevant Universities and Music Conservatoires in Spain, México, Colombia, Portugal, UK, EEUU, Greece, France.
I have travelled and studied flutes from non western cultures such as the arabic Ney, the Hindostani Bansoori and the Japanesse Sakuhachi. In each country I had the chance to work and learn from relevant flautists as Moslem Rahal, (Sirya), Rajat Prasana (India) and Teruhisa Fukuda (Japan). Knowing all the non-western techniques is a way of widen the way we understand repertoire and how we deal with new flute techniques and contemporary flute works. It may also complement the study of the classic repertoire or even become the center of our lessons should the student have a particular interest in them.

I am an internationally trained contemporary flautist, enthusiastic about contemporary flute music performance and teaching. For twenty years I have been a performer in orchestras and chamber ensembles and flute teacher in as many music schools.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I offer flute lesson in London with a broad approach in terms of styles and techniques. Raging from classical to contemporary flute works, I can adapt to the needs of any student, butI specially offer my expertise in extended techniques which are paramaount to perform music for contemporary flute from the XXth and XXIst century. If you have a specific interest in this area I am the right contemporary flute teacher in London for you.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
After graduating with distinction at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Madrid, (Madrid Royal Music Conservatoire) in Spain, I moved to Budapest where I finished a Masters degree on contemporary flute works at Corvin University under István Matuz's direction. As an researcher on contemporary flute I am currently doing a PhD at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and I have made a Visitor Researcher at The Graduate Center City University of New York (CUNY).
- How much do you charge?
£40 per hour. An additional £10 if I have to travel beyond Zone 4.
- Where do you teach?
I can teach at home or at students' homes. I can travel to most areas in London within Zones 1-4. An additional £10 will be charged for travelling beyond Zone 4, in London.
- When are you available?
I am available most days of the week and also on weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
My interest and enthusiasm about flute teaching allows me to work with students of any age and level. It is very rewarding for me as flute teacher to witness how beginner students learn to blow a turn a simple air stream into music. If you are an experienced flautist you will find in me a constant and encouraging trainer.
