About Karin

- What kind of experience do you have?

TEACHING

I have been teaching the piano continuously since 1995. I teach in both English and German. I'm most experienced in private teaching (40 pupils per week on average). This gives me the freedom to tailor all lessons to each student individually. As a consequence, I created a book “Wie klingt ein Regenbogen?” ("How does a Rainbow Sound?”) with 12 Illustrations and instructions for games and improvisations for ages 3-10 plus a lot more of supplementary teaching material.

I've also had extensive experience working in schools and Higher Education Institutions:

Guest Lecturer in Bangkok, Thailand, at PGVIM (Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music), teaching piano accompaniment and improvisation, 2015

Teaching free improvisation at the Reid School of Music, University of Edinburgh, 2010

Teaching piano students of the Reid School of Music, University of Edinburgh, 2005-present

Teaching piano at Mary Erskine School and Stewart's Melville College in Edinburgh, 2006-9,

Teaching practical music making at the German Play Group and German Saturday School in Edinburgh and at Kindergarten Grünau in Austria

PERFORMANCE

In the last 10 years free improvisation has become my main focus of musical performance. I'm a member of various free improvisation groups, such as Lapslap, Electric Cowboy Cacophony, and Edimpro. Nevertheless I'm also still passionate about interpreting classical and modern pieces. I have been performing in a duo with violinist Emma Lloyd for several years. I've played concerts in Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Thailand, and the UK, and I'm represented on seven CD releases.
