About Kate

- What kind of experience do you have?

As a teacher I have taught privately for many years and have extensive experience as a supply teacher in schools. I currently work as a music theory and aural skills tutor at Chetham's School of Music in the Manchester city centre.

As a musician, I perform regularly throughout England with my duo partner, Seungwon Lee. I have been named prizewinner in many solo competitions, including the Jonathan Myall Piccolo Prize, the British Flute Society's Young Artist Competition, the 15th International “Friedrich Kuhlau” Flute Competition, and the Washington Flute Society's Young Artist Competition. I have also given recent solo performances at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, as a guest artist at the British Flute Society's bi-annual convention, and with the Türingen Philharmonie Gotha in Uelzen, Germany.

I also work as an active orchestral musician. Most recently I spent my summer performing with the National Repertory Orchestra, a prestigious and highly competitive summer program based in Breckenridge, Colorado.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I do, as well as an up-to-date background check of my time spent in the United States.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied flute with Clare Southworth (International Soloist, G.R.N.C.M, P.P.R.N.C.M, Hon ARAM) for 3 years and piccolo with Patricia Morris (BBC Philharmonic) for 3 years.
During my time at Northwestern I was taught by Walfrid Kujala and Richard Graef, both members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for many years.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
