Personal Message
I am a classically trained trumpet player as well as an experienced coach. I love music and want each student to reach their potential whilst feeling confident and enjoying themselves.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am a trumpet player, so specialise in trumpet, cornet and upper brass instruments. I can also teach other brass instruments but would prefer to limit this to beginners only.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a GRNCM and PPRNCM from the Royal Northern College of Music and a postgraduate diploma in orchestral studies from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
I am also CIPD qualified and a qualified Myers Briggs practitioner.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am a classically trained musician and most of my college and professional experience was gained in symphony orchestras (including BBC Philharmonic and RPO) as well as brass and wind ensembles. I have also gained experience as a trainer and coach, which have developed skills that I can use as a music teacher, either with individuals, or with groups.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 an hour, and £13 for half an hour.
Where do you teach?
I can come to your home or school. I live in Newport, and mostly teach in Saffron Walden. However I may be able to travel to nearby locations, depending on my timetable.
When are you available?
I currently have a full teaching schedule so unfirtunately am am unable to accept new students at the moment. If you're happy to add your name to my waiting list please do get in touch and I will contact you when I have more availability. My usual teaching days are on Mondays and Tuesdays, during the day or early evening.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach from age 7 and upwards. I am more familiar with teaching primary aged children, but have also taught adult beginners as well as more advanced amateurs.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can help my trumpet students prepare for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall to grade 8. I can also teach to grade 5 theory.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have an up to date CRB check from both Essex and Hertfordshire
Where and with whom did you train?
As a Junior Exhibitioner at the Guildhall I studied with Andy Mitchell. Whilst at the RNCM my principal study teacher was Howard Snell, then at the Guildhall for my postgraduate I studied with John Miller and Ray Simmons.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I have very broad experience in my career, from specialising in orchestral trumpet playing, to training and coaching adults in the workplace. I am still absolutely passionate about music and how it enriches everyones life, and believe that everyone should learn an instrument, or sing. Its not just great for your soul, but you can get out there and join a group, band, orchestra or choir and make music with others. I really enjoy teaching people how to play the trumpet, whatever age or ability, and am really easy to get along with. Finally, I have benefitted from having some great teachers and experiences all the way through my career, and would like to pass this on to my students.
