About Stephanie
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked with children and young people for over ten years, beginning as a play worker for a children's Summer Camp when I was 16. I then joined a team of Homework Club tutors at a local secondary school during my time at sixth form college. It was during this role that I developed a real passion for supporting and inspiring learning and progress in children and young people. Throughout my university years, I was part of an after school club team, taking on the responsibility of planning and leading a range of fun and educational activities.
Having left university, I secured a role as a Teaching Assistant in a Year 2 class, which further developed my understanding of the educational development of a child within a school setting and confirmed my ambition to become a teacher myself! I left this position to join Anton Junior School in Andover as a Learning Support Assistant in a Year 4 class, with extra responsibility of caring for a child with Muscular Dystrophy. I worked with a vast range of differing abilities in small groups of children and also had the chance to cover teachers with support.
Having gone through a rigorous interview process involving subject knowledge tests, a presentation and an interview, I then secured a place on the Graduate Teacher programme through Southampton University. This avenue into teaching is entirely school-based, therefore I taught everyday in Year 3 and Year 6, taking responsibility for my own booster groups of children. I also taught whole class lessons on a regular basis. After a successful year on the GTP programme, I interviewed for an NQT post at Anton Junior School and was delighted to have been given my first proper Year 5 class! My NQT year has deepened my understanding of how to differentiate learning and adapt my teaching to foster the needs and capabilities of each child in my care. I was able to make progress with children whose abilities ranged from Level 3 to Level 5 and was hugely proud to be part of a team that achieved an Ofsted 'Outstanding' grade in April this year.
I have experience in tutoring for all aspects of the 11+ exam, as well as beginner English as a second language.

Yes I have a CRB from my most recent school.

I trained as a Primary Teacher at the University of Southampton, with Keith Smith as Director of Studies.

Hello! I am a fully qualified teacher providing tutoring services for a range of subjects and ages. I am a patient, dedicated and ambitious practitioner that loves helping people surprise themselves with their abilities!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Having trained as a Primary Teacher working mainly in Junior schools, I tutor in KS2 Literacy and Numeracy. I also teach English at KS3/GCSE level and up to A Level. I have a TEFL certificate and am therefore also available to tutor English as a foreign/second language from beginner level and up.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I achieved 9 GCSEs: grades A* - B.
I then attained 3 A Levels: English Literature - A, Sociology - A, Philosophy and Ethics of Religion - B.
At degree level, I was awarded a 2:1 Hons in BA English from the University of Sussex.
In July 2013 I completed my Initial Teacher Training at Southampton University with 'Very Good'. I have recently successfully completed my NQT year, during which my teaching was graded by Ofsted as 'Good with Outstanding Features'.
I completed 150 hours of online TEFL training and received a certificate.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 an hour for each subject. Travel costs will be negotiated with each client.
- Where do you teach?
I am happy to teach at students' homes in Andover and surrounding areas of Hampshire, including Test Valley towns and villages (Amesbury, Whitchurch, Bulford, Stockbridge, Overton, Ludgershall, Tidworth, Shipton Bellinger), Winchester and Basingstoke.
- When are you available?
I have slots available within Monday to Friday 2pm to 8pm and some Saturdays, upon request. Please contact me with your ideal days and times and I will try to fit your requirements!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach KS2 ages 7 to 11, KS3 ages 11 - 16 and A Level ages 16 - 18. I also teach adult English as a second/foreign language from beginner level.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am currently tutoring for the 11+ and have experience in teaching children towards Year 6 SATs. Due to my own educational experience, I can also support in working towards GCSE and A Level English.
