- Personal Message
- I am a freelance Horn player and Brass teacher who can help you discover the joys of music. If you are a beginner, student, or someone who wants to learn a bit more about music, I'm here to help!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I specialise in teaching the French Horn, Music Theory and Composition. I also teach all other Brass instruments.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- BMus (Hons) and MMus from Guildhall School of Music & Drama
ABRSM Grade 8 Theory - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught Brass privately and for comprehensive schools for the past 6 years. I've also spent a year as a teaching assistant with the GCSE and A level music syllabus with responsibilities for Music Theory and Composition.
As a horn player I have worked with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, English Classical Players, and was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra. I have also worked for the education departments of the Britten Sinfonia and LSO. - How much do you charge?
- I have detailed the fees above, but for consultation lessons and group lessons I have particular concessions. Please contact me for these details.
- Where do you teach?
- I am willing to teach at the student's home, or at my music studio in North London. I am willing to travel within 5 miles for no extra fee, but for further afield, please contact me directly.
- When are you available?
- I have a busy freelance schedule, but I aim to make lessons as regular as the student prefers.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach students of all ages (but I believe it best to start brass playing once the 2nd set of teeth have come through and not before).
I teach instruments to the following standards:
French Horn (Beginner to Advanced)
Tenor Horn (Beginner to Advanced)
Trumpet (Beginner to Grade 8) - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall Exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- My current CRB check is more than 6 months old, so am willing to acquire a new one at the pupil's request.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I am able to tutor online via skype, and have a fast fibre-optic broadband connection for best quality during these sessions.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Jeff Bryant, Hugh Seenan, Richard Bissill and Jonathan Lipton. I have performed in masterclasses with David Pyatt & Tim Jones (LSO), John Ryan (LPO) and Wolfgang Gaag (German Brass).
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Music is one of the true great joys in life, and through understanding, knowledge and progress, we are able to enjoy it to its fullest!

The Natural Horn and Brahms
This research is an extract from my final year at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. ‘I write for the most wonderful Waldhorns in D flat, but I never expect to hear them…’ Johannes Brahms There is a common misconception with regards to Brahms’ horn writing that he wrote exclusively for his works to be performed on the natural horn.
