- What kind of experience do you have?

I have a wealth of teaching experience in a variety of different environments: as well as having taught privately for the last 5 years, I have also worked for private companies, Saturday schools and through music services as a peripatetic teacher in schools, and so I have experience teaching all ages and abilities in a variety of different ways.

I also attended the Pedagogy course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, and still regularly go to professional development workshops in order to ensure that my teaching skills are well-informed with current practices and resources.

I am currently studying piano and harpsichord at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and am looking to take on a small number of students of my own in London (I have previous teaching experience in Kent).

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I mainly teach piano, but am also able to teach theory and academic music.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have passed an Associate of the Trinity College London exam in piano with distinction, and am currently working towards my BMus (Hons) degree at Trinity Laban.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £25 per hour, and £15 per half hour. I am willing to offer one reduced-rate consultation lesson to any new students.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at the students' homes - I live in Greenwich, but am willing to travel to anywhere within a reasonable distance, e.g. Charlton, Lewisham, Kidbrooke etc.

- When are you available?

I am available at weekends and evenings during term times - holiday lessons can be arranged on a lesson-by-lesson basis.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and abilities, though I do require that any children are old enough to learn, concentrate and be able to physically reach the piano!

- Do you have a personal message for students?

While learning an instrument can be a challenge at times, it is, above all else, a fun thing to do, and I think it's important to enjoy what you're doing!

Hello! My name is Madelaine, and I am a classical pianist and teacher. Alongside engagements as a pianist and composer, I teach several evenings a week in and around South West (and occasionally South East) London.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

My first love is the piano, and so most of my students are studying classical piano. However, I am also experienced in teaching composition, theory and general musicianship.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a first class honours degree in Performance (first study: piano; second studies: composition, improvisation & harpsichord) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, one of the UK's leading institutions for music, and was awarded the Nancy Thomas Prize upon graduation for my exemplary marks.

I also hold a Licentiate of Trinity College London (Piano Recital), and an Associate of the London College of Music (Piano Accompaniment).

- How much do you charge?

I charge £34 per hour, and £20 per half hour session. This includes travel costs.

Consultation lessons are available at a reduced price of £30 per hour/£18 per half hour.

- Where do you teach?

I much prefer to teach in students' homes, but in exceptional circumstances, can teach at my own.

- When are you available?

If you're looking for an after school slot for you or your children, I have availability as of September for Friday afternoons/evenings, and Tuesday evenings. For adult learners, I can do during the day on any day of the week.

If you are looking for casual/occasional lessons, I can also potentially do Saturday afternoons, but this would have to be on a lesson-by-lesson basis.

While students are under no obligation to take lessons in the school holidays, I am normally around and happy to give lessons on a lesson-by-lesson basis.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All ages and abilities - I have taught from 5 to 65 years of age, from complete beginner to advanced level students! This has varied from people who take their classical music and theory very seriously, to those who are learning for fun and a bit of light entertainment. I cater for all needs and wants!

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

If students want to aim for qualifications, I am experienced in and happy to teach the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall syllabuses. However, exams are by no means an expectation in my teaching style - I believe that every student will have different goals and interests, and it's important to listen to these and choose the right path for the student.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

My personal message for students is that, no matter where you currently are in your musical journey, or what you're aiming to achieve, anything is possible with the right amount of work and the right support. My role as a teacher is to teach you how to learn, and how to teach yourself. I do not believe in being a 'strict' teacher in the traditional sense, because I believe that people will ultimately only learn from the work that they want to do and are excited about. Instead, I think it is vital to enthuse you, and make you want to learn!
