- Personal Message
- I have been teaching for over 25 years and aim to give all children and young adults confidence and self esteem thus giving them a great future. Parents are expected to stay with the student during the lesson so that they can continue the teaching at home. For Reading and Spelling I use a great system which is fun and gives fast results using synthetic phonics. Imagine being able to read in 18 weeks when you have struggled for years at school! Many children with speech & language disorders find English and/or Maths difficult and may need additional help. Many children find Maths challenging and can create a phobia of school. I teach without the use of thousands of worksheets. Using concrete materials and boosting long term and working memory will help sort out Maths problems. I have also trained in Life Coaching aimed at guiding any age forwards with their lives.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I specialise in teaching children and young adults with reading and writing difficulties such as Dyslexia and Autism as well as Maths difficulties such as Dyscalculia.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a fully qualified teacher having taught in state schools of all ages and have specialised in Speech & Language Disorders. I am a certified teacher in the Sound Reading System which aims to teach most children to read in up to 18 weeks depending on the severity of the problem. I am also a certified teacher of Life Coaching.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught in mainstream primary and special schools ( 4-17year olds) and have also taught children who have been excluded from school. My main area of work has focused on children with speech and language disorders where I have taught within specialised Units within Mainstream Schools.
- How much do you charge?
- Lessons are £25 an hour (Maths lessons are £20 an hour and Early Years £15). Please enquire for prices if you need me to travel to you - only done in special circumstances. Discounts will be given for teaching more than one child in the family.
- Where do you teach?
- Mainly I will only teach from my home. My home is within 4 miles of Fishguard, 10 miles from Haverfordwest, 15 miles from Pembroke, Milford Haven, St Davids, Newport and 25 miles from Cardigan.
- When are you available?
- Available at any time of day, Mondays to Saturdays. Classes will continue through school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- All ages of children with reading and spelling difficulties.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- CRB check is up-to-date and available on request.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- An 8 year old girl started with me with a reading and spelling age below 6 years. Within 11 weeks her reading age had increased by 18 months and her spelling age by 15 months. She is a much more confident child now and has chosen to carry on her studies with me on a saturday afternoon instead of joining a dance class as she says reading is more important and she likes the classes.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Fun activities with no judgement made on the student. Relaxed working environment.

Why Children Can't Read
I was inspired by a book written by an American professor, Diane McGuinness, - "Why Children Can't Read? 1998. A teacher living in Oxford, Fiona Nevola, has produced a reading and spelling system based on this book which I now use. Scholastic Education have been so excited by the results they will be producing it for schools in Britain. ...
