About Dawn
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a class teacher for 18 years mainly working with children in Key Stage 2, although I have also taught from the Key Stage 3 curriculum for English and maths. I now focus on providing private tuition exclusively which allows me more time to devote to preparation of lessons. A patient and caring professional, I have taught children with a range of special needs including learning difficulties, sensory impairments, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger’ s Syndrome and also children on the autistic spectrum.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I currently hold four CRB certificates from different authorities and institutions. I can also supply many references from headteachers, deputy headteachers and parents of tutees.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently tutor children from Years 3 to 9 with a range of abilities and needs. In the past my pupils have included asylum seeker children (who are now studying at university) a high achieving Year 9 pupil from a prestigious public school and children from Years 5 and 6 who needed help to attain levels 4 and 5 in English and maths. I am also passionate about meeting the needs of the gifted and talented, believing that all children should be challenged and encouraged to reach their potential. Please read some of the testimonials from happy parents!

With a First Class Degree in Education, I am a hard-working and committed teacher of children in Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. I am friendly, flexible and approachable with a good sense of humour.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach maths and English, and I am currently tutoring children from Years 2 to 10.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I trained at the Manchester Metropolitan University and have a First Class Honours degree in education (BEd). I also hold Post Graduate diplomas and certificates in education and teaching studies. I am also an examiner for Edexcel, marking Key Stage 2 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling tests. Please see attached CV for more details.
- How much do you charge?
All lessons are charged at £28.00 per hour, which includes all lesson preparation time, marking of work and travel time. There is no extra charge for travel within a six-mile radius of my home. Also, during the initial session I will make a full assessment of your child's needs and abilities; there is no charge for this.
- Where do you teach?
I travel to the pupil's house, preferably within a six-mile radius of Bramhall. This may include: all areas of Stockport, Poynton, Adlington, Wilmslow, Handforth and Woodford. I will also consider travelling further afield for a small supplementary charge.
- When are you available?
I am expecting to have a vacancy from the middle of May. Dependent upon location, this will be a 7:00 to 8:00 pm session on a Wednesday. I am available during the daytime during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
My greatest experience is with children in Key Stage 2 and I have 20 years' experience in preparing children for the end of Key Stage 2 (SATs) National Curriculum tests. I am now successfully tutoring children from Year 3 through to Year 9.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
In addition to preparing children for the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests, I also prepare children for grammar school entry tests.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am an extremely conscientious practitioner and I set high standards for myself and for my pupils. During the first session, I will make a thorough and detailed assessment of your child’s abilities and needs before planning lessons which will ensure continuity and progression, and which are personalised to meet your child’s requirements. I frequently devise my own materials rather than use commercially produced resources which tend to offer a more generic ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. Following each lesson, I will email you a detailed report of the lesson, including information about your child’s performance and progress. I am happy to set homework if you wish and this will be designed to consolidate what has been covered within the lesson. Whilst I have high expectations of my tutees, I like my sessions to be relaxed and informal, and, as such, I seek to create a calm, nurturing and fun atmosphere within which your child will feel confident and enabled. However, there is more to life than work! I also like to read, bake and do voluntary work for a local animal charity (when I can find the time!).

Dawn is working with our Year 6 daughters. We noted an immediate improvement in the academic abilities and confidence with both our girls as a consequence of Dawn's teaching style and individual focus. Our children warmed to Dawn straight away and are happy to spend time with her learning even at the weekend! We would highly recommend Dawn to any parents who are looking for an experienced tutor who will tailor lessons to individual children's needs to ensure progress is made in all required areas.
Dawn has helped both our sons, Joe aged 8 and Noel aged 6 immensely within a short space of time. Dawn has successfully picked up on their individual weaknesses and put strategies in place. Both boys have become a lot more confident and really look forward to their sessions with Dawn. We highly recommend Dawn for any tutoring that you may require for your child and really can't thank her enough!
We contacted Dawn to help our 8 year old son with his Literacy, as we were told that he had 'Dyslexic Tendencies' by his school. Dawn has now been working with him twice a week for the last 2 months and he has shown a superb improvement. She has been kind, patient and enthusiastic with him, and encouraged him to put pen to paper and to think about the words he is writing. I would highly recommend Dawn to anyone who is looking for a tutor.
Dawn has helped my daughter so much in her maths. She has given her more confidence and now my daughter is actually enjoying maths at school. Dawn is very experienced in teaching children maths and does it in a way that children can understand. Dawn actually makes learning fun and daughter looks forward to Dawn coming. I'm very happy I picked Dawn and hope to keep her for all of year 9 as my daughter's understanding of maths has already improved. I would recommend Dawn as your tutor.
