About Halar
- What kind of experience do you have?
In the past year alone I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience, and have been tutoring privately and as a volunteer for the past five years, working with children aged between 8 and 18. I have also interned as a Maths teaching assistant at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School (Boys) and have experience in teaching a whole class.
So far this year I have been involved in one-to-one tutoring mostly. My proudest achievement was being involved in a project from the Mayor of London whereby I was teaching GCSE Maths at three different schools in South London to gifted and talented students after-school as part of a whole class. It was a very interesting experience getting to know the students and working on their weaknesses and developing their maths skills was definitely rewarding.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate with no prior records.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I received my training at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Institute of Physics
- Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my current students just started out AS-Level Physics and Maths and had some difficulty in connecting the two together. Through demonstrations and analogies I explained to him that actually quadratic equations are extremely important for understanding objects that travel as parabolas or objects that are thrown up.
When it clicked for him he was hooked and now loves to discover the connections between what he is learning in his maths and physics subjects.
