About Andrew
- What kind of experience do you have?
I studied mathematics at Cambridge University up to masters level, with distinction, and also studied masters level computational finance at Carnegie Mellon University in the States. Until fairly recently I was trading interest rate derivatives in The City, and tutoring voluntarily on weekends. Now I am tutoring full time.
My approach with students is to start with the basics, for two reasons - to build confidence, and to build a solid foundation - both of which I believe to be essential. As we work through more advanced concepts, I put a lot of weight on understanding rather than rote learning, and achieve this by actively engaging the student and discussing why we use a particular method and how that method works.
The other key to my approach is to provide positive feedback and encouragement, which reinforces a growing confidence in the student, and makes lessons more enjoyable for everyone!
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an up-to-date enhanced CRB certificate.

I'm a highly passionate and motivated tutor. I firmly believe that a strong foundation in mathematics makes everything afterwards much easier, so my focus is not only on learning methods, but understanding why they work.

- Do you have a personal message for students?
There are a number of reasons for why a student might be finding mathematics difficult, but in my experience it had never been due to the student not being capable! Give tutoring a try, we'll work on some simple ideas, and soon you'll find that the hard questions can be solved in a few easy steps.
