About Max

- What kind of experience do you have?

Teaching some people roughly my own age the basic rudiments of the piano and music theory. One pupil was slightly more advanced.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, I am in the process of retrieving this back from the teaching agency Celsian Recruitment.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I was taught the piano first by a Jamie Sexby (who also taught a multitude of wind instruments) in Exmouth, Devon and then by a Jane Riley (who got me to grade 8 and whom I am still in contact with) in Chard, Somerset. My second piano teacher also taught me music theory and facilitated my being able to complete the grade 5 theory.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Not at the present time.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I taught three individuals N, A and B. All were excellent students so I didn't need to do very much! All joking aside, it was interesting to me how, as a teacher, one must totally change the teaching approach from student to student. I worked with N (a complete beginner) on the Coldplay song Clocks, which he mastered under my tuition. B happens to be my friend and is a naturally very intelligent person so picked it up extremely quickly, working from a beginner's piano book. He was able to question the music in a way I hadn't. A is a violinist and I met at Leeds College of Music, so had some prior musical knowledge and ability anyway.

English

Hello! I am a music graduate looking to get into private tuition and to impart some of the knowledge and passion I feel towards music, whilst assisting that individual in finding their own musical voice and mind.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach the piano and music theory (both from beginner to intermediate level).

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music obtained from Leeds College of Music. I also possess various low-level qualifications obtained from Leeds City College (in Adult Social Care), a B-TEC level 1 in Workskills, 3 A-levels and 7 g.c.s.e's.

- How much do you charge?

I will generally charge around £25 but am open to negotiations regarding cost. The Musician's Union, as of 2016, recommends charging £32 per hour but I feel I would like to charge quite a bit less than this. I also offer my first lesson for half price.

- Where do you teach?

I am offering private lessons in piano (beginners to intermediate) and basic music theory (grades 1-5). I live in Headingley, Leeds. I am also willing to travel to students' houses (within a radius of around 5 miles).

- When are you available?

I am free during the daytime of the weekdays Tuesdays to Friday, but ultimately whenever a student is free to have a lesson. I am willing to teach on bank holidays and during holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I have no real preference however generally speaking the youngest I would wish to teach is around 15 and the oldest 20. I direct my services towards beginner's to intermediate level piano (around grades 1-6) and for music theory grades 1-5.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I would be in the position to prepare my students (at the end of our time together) a grade 5 piano examination or a grade 5 music theory lesson.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I do not plan to do any online tutoring.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Lets get learning.
