About James
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught in state schools and colleges for five years and been tutoring English for two years. I have taught from primary to A-level in Technology in the public sector. In addition to this I have two years Special Educational Needs experience which includes college level teaching numeracy and literacy. My English teaching has been over a three year period at the English Study Centre and part time through Reivers Education.
I have also gained experience through my Leonardo projects. This in-cooperates interviewing students and assessing their English levels and then finding appropriate host families and work placements, this has proved very successful and rewarding. I also have a summer school in July that takes on the Swansea Metropolitian University, (concealed information)

- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at Swansea University for my CELTA certification and at the Swansea Institute for my PGCE in Technology. My teaching training was undertaken in Morriston and Gowerton Comprehensive schools and my English training was carried out at Swansea University and I worked extensivly at the English Study Centre.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently I am preparing students for IELTS Academic and General, who look set to sit their exams soon. In addition to this I have been undertaking projects in the Leonardo Da Vinci program which has been fantastic. I have planned individual programs that include a General and Business English course with cultural studies, then in the remaining period of their placements they have work experience in Swansea and live with experienced host families.

I am a highly trained teacher to help provide English language solutions for your Business or Academic needs. I have extensive experience teaching a variety of nationalities for a variety of different exams.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in English as a Foreign Language, Design Technology, Engineering and Special Educational Needs. In the subject of EFL I prepare lessons around Total English Upper Intermediate and Advanced, supported with IELTS Materclass (Oxford) IELTS vocabulary (Cambridge) and IELTS grammar (Cambridge). I prepare a combination of this work and present in a bound booklet that best targets students needs. All lessons are conducted using a laptop and projector.
I am also qualified and experienced to teach Technology in Secondary school. I specialise in Resistant Materials, Control and Systems and Graphics..
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Technology. This is supported with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and BEng Computer Aided Engineering.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £20 per hour as a basic fee but this can be negotiable on long term intensive teaching contracts and group work is at £12 per hour. Travel is approximately half hourly rate. I also provide support for University and IELTS application form filling and submission for half hourly rate.
In addition to this I also offer host families for your stay at £20 per night Full Board this includes all meals and half board at £18 per night which includes two meals a day. Additional services here are Internet, washing and gas and electric bills included.
- Where do you teach?
My teaching environment is based in Swansea City I teach in my studio apartment overlooking the bay, this is a relaxed environment for learning to take place. I offer fresh ground coffee at break time to my students to maintain a professional atmosphere and relaxed learning environment. The lessons are presented on laptop computer and projector, with supporting booklets and also on-line through Skype to support distance learning where files are accessed via Dropbox.
- When are you available?
I am available on a 9am until 6pm basis, but can accommodate students needs in the evenings or weekends as required on-line with Skype.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach in the age range of 13 to adult. The younger age range are taught at summer school in Swansea and then teaching adults on a one-to-one basis through face-to-face teaching or over Skype.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for IELTS Academic and General, First Certificate English, Pearson Test in English.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I teach English language over Skype after sending all the appropriate files your email account. I alos have a dropbox which allows me to send course over a safe secure network tailored to a students individual needs.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Best of luck to passed students who I have taught IELTS and allowed them to progress with their medical professions. Also the best of luck for students who have obtained their work visas in order to pursue their chosen careers.
