About Alison
- What kind of experience do you have?
My experience includes: teaching maths to day-release apprentices, reading to slow learners, physics and chemistry in several comprehensive and private schools, and teaching a University Physics course. I was appointed as Head of Physics at Christ's Hospital, (a girls' public school). I then became Head of Science, with a Department of five, in a comprehensive school. My pupils appreciate that I am always careful to explain the logical connections between each mathematical and scientific topic, something which is not always done in schools. Many of my ex-pupils have gained good University Places some at Oxford and Cambridge. One University Professor told me he was always glad to accept my pupils because they had a good grounding in mathematics and Physics.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have CRB clearamce
- Where and with whom did you train?
I took my degrees at Manchester University and Queen Mary College, London In addition to working as a teacher, I did research work on semiconductors and on rocketry I was for a time Head of Mathematical Modelling for Dowty International.

I can teach you Physics up to undergraduate level, Mathematics to A-Level, Chemistry and Biology to AS level

- How much do you charge?
I am happy to give you a free half hour's consultation or specimen lesson if you feel you need advice before committing yourself to a series of lessons. I have given group lessons when several pupils from the same class needed help, and am happy to do so again. For this, I would charge 50% more than my standard fee divided between the group of pupils.
- Where do you teach?
Pupils always come to me (except in very special circumstances). This is because I work with up to four pupils each evening which leaves me no time to travel between lessons. It also helps that I have a large stock of textbooks, syllabuses, and past examination papers which we can use during lessons.
- When are you available?
I normally give lessons lasting one hour, from 4.00pm to 8.00pm Mondays to Fridays, and prefer not to work on Saturdays if it can be avoided.

I teach pupils of all ages. Currently my youngest pupil is seven, and I have helped several adult pupils who needed additional qualifications, such as for a Teaching diploma or a Pilots licence. I have taught at all levels including undergraduates.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare you for School entrance examinations, GCSE, and GCE AS and A levels and Undergraduate degree examinations part 1 and part 2
