About Ken
- What kind of experience do you have?
20 years of classroom teaching in Bristol schools, including a spell as Head of Physics. I then left normal teaching to do 1 to 1 GCSE maths tuition in my last school for 3 years. I have now just retired and I will be taking on a small number of students, or small groups. Recently, the GCSE pass rate of my school went from 41% to 70%.
Before this I was an engineer on oil rigs working in Libya, Kuwait, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore, and Bangladesh.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
One struggling GCSE student this year was predicted a C/D in Physics. I boosted her confidence, and she got an A* after 5 lessons. Overheard on a D of E walk, referring to me..'thats the bloke that got me my GCSE in Maths'. I have boosted the A level grades of my students, on many occassions, allowing students to get to their University of choice.

I am an experienced and successful tutor for A Level Physics, and GCSE Maths. I enjoy the feedback students can give. I will constantly challenge students to explain the work to me. Constant revisiting of ideas is key to learning.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
A Level Physics, GCSE Physics, and GCSE Maths.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Manchester University, and a PGCE in Science/Physics from Bristol University.
- How much do you charge?
£32 an hour for A level Physics.
£27 for GCSE.
If you can arrange small groups for GCSE/A level. Travel would be by negotiation. I don't do free lessons as everyone I have ever taught wants to continue!
- Where do you teach?
I am set up to teach at my home with a variety of aids. I will travel but not more than 4 miles, unless a block booking of time is made. (eg a 'cramming' before an exam)
- When are you available?
I will be available most times, except the weekend.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have taught from 11 to 18, but concentrate on KS4 and A level.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have a fast connection, I use Skype, and have all the necessary hardware. I have not done this yet, but I cannot see this as being a problem.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
You will find my lessons challenging, but fun. If you do not understand a point I will take it back to basics, or find other ways that will ensure understanding. I feel that I am good at asking 'difficult' questions that test understanding!
