About Katherine
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have almost a decade's experience of giving one-to-one teaching and have coached and accompanied a wide range of other instruments for graded exams. I have extensive knowledge of teaching techniques and strategies for progression both through one-to-one and classroom teaching. I lead orchestras and choirs, have musically directed a number of staged musicals and operas and have extensive experience of accompanying semi-professional choral and operatic societies.

I have an up-to-date DBS certificate.

I studied piano performance at Birmingham Conservatoire under John Humphreys and Simon Nicholls.

I am a friendly and experienced piano teacher and classroom teacher based in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham. I teach students of all ages and abilities.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Piano and Music Theory. I can also provide support for students studying GCSE and A Level Music having had 4 years experience in teaching these subjects in school.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a PGCE Level 7 in Secondary Music and have 4 years of teaching Music in the classroom from ages 11-18. Prior to this I gained a Bachelors Degree of Music with Honours studying piano at Birmingham Conservatoire.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £20 for an hour, £18 for 45 minutes and £12 for half an hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Kings Heath. I only travel to students homes for a lesson duration of an hour and a half or more. Fees are increased slightly when travelling to students homes in order to cover travel costs and time.
- When are you available?
I am available to teach most weekday evenings after 5 and on Sundays. Though many students choose not to have lessons in school holidays, I am still available to continue teaching on request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I currently teach students from beginners to diploma level and of all ages. I would not suggest students begin formal piano lessons much before the age of 6 as their fingers are not developed and it could potentially cause damage.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
The examination board I use is the ABRSM. I also have students who are not interested in taking graded exams. I am most experienced with teaching the OCR and AQA GCSE specifications as well as OCR and EDEXCEL A Level courses but I do have familiarity with other examination boards.
