About Helen
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring in my tutoring office for 4 years. My previous tutees have succeeded at improving their grades for AS/A2 Sociology on the AQA syllabus - incuding Family, Education, Health, Media, Belief and Crime modules. I am also experienced with the Edxexcel AS/A2 level Politics & Government, which has a range of varied topics including Political Ideology, International Relations and the EU. I am also experienced in AQA GCSE History and OCR A level Sociology.
I have a range of educational experience, note-taking and mentoring in the higher education sector for 5 years. I have supported students with a range of SEN and disabilities including Dyslexia, Hearing Impairment, and those with ASD/Aspergers. I have passed on life skills, and study skills, with a range of revision techniques. I've worked as an academic mentor for Politics and International Relations up to degree level. I can provide university references if requested.
I have excellent feedback from previous students and their grade improvements are really a pleasure to see.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a summer 2015 DBS check, available for students and parents to see.
- Where and with whom did you train?
My degrees are both from Aberystwyth University in Wales. I have worked with the Reading University for 6 years, mentoring students and supporting their studies. My Counselling course was run by Oxford University Continuing Education.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are a range of subjects and ages, but they are all enjoying their sessions and making great progress towards their targets. We review work regularly, and this helps students remain focused. I communicate regularly with students and parents by email, providing feedback and further resources where applicable.

Helen is amazing! What I most loved I think is that Helen will tailor the lessons to the way you learn best for example I was a visual learner so Helen would always try to incorporate something visual to help me. It's not just reading from a book or being in test conditions so it does not get boring! Closer to the exams there are things to solve any last minute issues! I have had other tutors in the past, but I have to say Helen tops them off! Rating 5/5
Extremely helpful and friendly. Helped me look at Politics from a different view, which definitely helped me to achieve an A in Edexcel Politics. I would highly recommend the help of Helen. Rating 5/5
Helen helped my daughter with her A level Sociology. She is very friendly, approachable and enthusiastic, with an informal and flexible approach. She quickly identified areas where help was required, especially with regards to exam technique. Helen has not only improved my daughter's subject knowledge, but has increased her confidence as well. I would happily recommend her. Rating 5/5
Thank you for all your help, no matter what grade I get I know I couldn't have done it without you! Those documents you sent were really helpful and the exam went well. Thanks for everything :)
Helen, Thank you for helping me with my Sociology exams, I found it really useful and now I have a higher chance of getting to university, so thank you a lot !
Helen, Thank you so much for your tutoring, its been fantastic for me, and its helped me no end!
J got a B in Politics and we are so delighted! The AS paper that he re-sat he got 100% which is unbelievable. Seeing as I came to you because he got an E in his January mock he came a long way. Thank you so much, you helped him to be successful and he comfortably got his Uni place
I got 2 A's and a B in the modules you tutored me for. I got into my first choice uni and I am so pleased! Thank you so much, for helping me through it all, and without you I don't think I'd have done it!
Helen did a marvelous job tutoring our daughter. The arrangement was quick and efficient to set up, Helen was flexible to our schedule and very helpful with our initial questions. Once she began tutoring our daughter we could immediately see an increase in her confidence with the subject as well as an improvement in her grades. For the paper Helen specifically tutored our daughter on she increased 2 grades on her re-sit.
Overall she increased a full grade in her final paper which secured her university place. Not only were we thrilled with the grade outcome but the increase in her confidence and associated decrease in her stress was fantastic. I can't recommend Helen enough.
