Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am an experienced violin, viola and theory teacher from beginner to advanced level.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a B Mus degree with Honours, from the Royal Northern College of Music. I have also successfully gained a Postgraduate Diploma (Dip RNCM) in violin performance, completed in June 2008.
I have ABRSM grade 8 piano and ABRSM grade 7 theory of music.
I have an ABRSM Diploma in violin performance.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught violin for 4 years now, both privately and at a Preparatory School in Eccles, Co. Lancashire. My pupils range from age 4 - 65.
How much do you charge?
A 30 min lesson costs £24. I am willing to give discounted fees for group lessons. I generally teach a 60 min lesson and this costs £30 (travel expenses may be added).
Where do you teach?
I am the violin teacher at Cassiobury Junior & Infant Schools, Watford (Hertfordshire Music Service). Here I teach about 40 children both individually and in groups between the ages of 6 and 10.
I currently have a number of private students including children and adult amateurs. I am usually prepared to travel to the student's home (travel expenses cost extra). I am willing to travel throughout London, providing that your location is easily accessible by public transport.
I am currently studying for a Master's in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where my professor is Simon Fischer.
When are you available?
I am free to teach during the evenings on most week days, and during the day at weekends. There are also some slots available during the day on week days.
**Please note that I do not have any violins to rent out to students - you must purchase your own before commencing lessons!**
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age and at any level. I enjoy teaching adult beginners as well as children (I am also experienced in teaching complete beginners to read music).
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
For pupils who are interested in entering for practical examinations, I follow the Associated Board (ABRSM) syllabus.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes, I have a valid CRB disclosure certificate.
Where and with whom did you train?
I trained for five years in total at the Royal Northern College of Music with Steven Wilkie and Benedict Holland. I am now undertaking a Master's Programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where my tutor is Simon Fischer.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach several children between the ages of 6 and 12 who are progressing well as they work towards Associated Board exams. I also teach adult beginners who have decided to take up the violin as a new hobby. I also have a few students to whom I teach theory as part of their weekly violin lesson.
Do you have a personal message for students?
It is necessary to establish a solid foundation of technique in the early stages of learning the violin. I believe that it is very important to teach this to my students from the outset, so that all other areas of violin playing can then be learnt with the minimum level of difficulty.
Please contact me now with details of your age, level of experience, availablilty etc. If you provide your phone number, I will get back to you asap!
