Which subject(s) do you teach?
Specialising in Ages 4-5 and 11+ Exam preparation and children with Special Educational Needs. Academic tuition in several subject areas including Literacy, Numeracy, General Science (Ages 4-11 years); verbal & non-verbal reasoning (Ages 4-11 years); SATs and 11+ exams preparation; and relaxation/meditation classes/sessions for children (Ages 4-11 years).

My Sound Therapy case studies are now under way, and am looking for individuals who would be interested in receiving my hour long sessions at a reduced rate (£20/hour compared to the £50-60/hr once I'm fully qualified).

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Geography from the Univeristy of British Columbia in Canada, as well as a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from the University of Victoria in Canada.

More recently, I have/am: trained as a Relax Kids teacher (relaxation coach); received my Foundation Level Certificate in Colourstrings Kindergarten approach to music with babes & toddlers; in the process of completing my Level 1 Certificate in the Colourstrings Kindergarten approach; and taken some Kodaly musicianship training. I am now halfway through my Sound Practitioner (Therapy) Diploma and am currently looking for case studies for my research project/thesis.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have more than 11 years experience teaching as a Primary Teacher, including 7+ years as Music Co-ordinator, 3+ years as Music Specialist, 2 years as Literacy Co-ordinator, and 2+ years co-ordinating the training and mentoring of student teachers within my school setting.

I have also done academic tutoring for more than 12 years, working with dozens of children between the ages of 3 and 12 realise their potential by providing a safe and stimulating learning environment.

How much do you charge?
Although the prices are mentioned above, all prices may vary due to a variety of reasons including (but not limited to) hall hire costs, travel, numbers tutoring, time, etc... Prices for tuition are for 1:1 and 1:2 support. Prices (and availability) for home taught children are available upon request.

As well, relaxation/meditation sessions can be either 1:1 or small groups (up to 15), with fees depending mainly on location & number of children. I am also available to run both music and relaxation sessions within playgroups, nurseries, and primary schools. Please contact me for further details.

Where do you teach?
Academic Tuition takes place in my home, allowing me 'instant' access to the wealth of resources I have gathered over my 10+ years experience as a Primary Teacher. I am located in Central Croydon, with plenty of parking available, and only a 10 minutes walk from both West Croydon and East Croydon mainline stations.

Relaxation/meditation classes, along with support for home schooled children will be dependent on needs, numbers, etc... Location will be dependent on size of group as well.

When are you available?
Currently, I run academic tuition sessions Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Available times as of 14/01/10:
Mondays - 7.30-8.30pm
Wednesdays - 5.30-6.30pm (ages 4-8 only); 6.30-7.30pm (fortnightly); 7.30-8.30pm
Thursdays - 7-8pm

Which ages and levels do you teach?
My interest lies mainly in the 0-5 year olds, particularly with regards to the music side of things.

I am also well versed in teaching 4-11 year olds, both in school and tuition settings.

Some people have asked me if I can do relaxation/meditation classes for teenagers and adults, and it is something I would definitely consider if the right opportunity comes along.

Yes, I do have a full, enhanced CRB disclosure certificate.

Tell me about some of your current students.
On the academic side of things, I am currently working with a variety of pupils, the youngest being 4 years old and the eldest being 10 years old. Ability levels vary from child to child and includes children with CP, speech and language delays, those requiring general academic support, to those who are well ahead of their peers and are preparing for several of the top local Grammar School exams.

Finally, I have run several afterschool clubs over the past 3 years providing more than 100 children with the unique opportunity to learn how to relax through play, breath, yoga/stretching exercises, simple visualisations. I am now looking at branching into the world of doing 1:1 support with children and integrating Sound Therapy
