Personal Message
I am a violin and viola tutor with over 10 years teaching experience including one to one teaching and secondary classroom teaching.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach violin, viola and theory from beginner to advanced level. I teach piano from beginner to grade 3.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from the Trinity College of music with a BMUS HONS degree in 1998. I completed a post graduate certificate in education in 2001.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have many years of experience both performing and teaching. I have performed with symphony orchestras, chamber groups, duets and as a session musician. I was a Head of music in 3 schools between 2002 - 2011. Throughout that time I taught violin, viola and piano individually in addition to my classroom teaching career, with many of my students going on to study music at degree level. I made the decision to devote myself purely to one to one tuition, as instrumental teaching is a great passion of mine, that brings huge satisfaction when I see the progress my students make.
How much do you charge?
Extra fees for travel are negotiable. Young children (beginners) are advised to have 20 - 30 minute lessons priced at £10/£15 per session. Learners studying for grades are advised to opt for a 40 minute session priced at £20 or a full hour at £30. Paired lessons are 30 minutes and are priced at £10 per student.
Where do you teach?
I teach in my own home, where I have access to a piano. I can also go to students homes if preferred. I am based in the Forest Hill area of south east London, but am willing to travel to surrounding areas such as Bromley and Croydon.
When are you available?
I am available Monday - Saturday, 10am - 9pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach beginner to advanced levels and all ages from age 3 to adult.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for the ABRSM grades and Trinity Guildhall grades.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have an up to date CRB check from Croydon.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the musicians' union.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied viola and violin at the Trinity College of music, London with violists Rusen Gunes and Peter Lewis and violin professor Andrew Sherwood.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have students of varying ages, the youngest is 6 and learning piano the eldest is 37 and having refresher lessons on the violin.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Playing an instrument is one of the most enjoyable things you can do. It improves your concentration and benefits all areas of your life. Most of all, it is relaxing and fun.
