About Simon
- What kind of experience do you have?
When I was 18 (and throughout university) I trained and worked with Callan School near Oxford Circus. During the summer holidays I worked abroad, including managing a school in Brazil and doing paid teaching in Peru. After that I went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the finest leadership school in the world, and learned to train soldiers in infantry tactics, jungle warfare but also to prepare them for their GCSEs, A levels and key stage exams. During this time, and throughout my Army career where I was a Captain, I also trained other Officers in interview preparation, presentation and essay writing.
Finally, I have worked as a tutor on and off for 12 years.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have Developed Vetting, which is is the most detailed and comprehensive form of security clearance in UK government. It is needed for posts that require individuals to have frequent and uncontrolled access to TOP SECRET assets or require any access to TOP SECRET codeword material.
This process is designed to ensure that I have the highest character and encompasses the enhanced DBS check. It also includes a full MI5 check, a workplace check, an interview by a trained security official and more.

I have tutored for 12 years and I really love it! I have managed a school in Brazil, trained and taught in London, both in Academy schools and at a private school. I have also instructed as a Captain in the British Army.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in 11+ and Common Entrance. More generally, I also tutor History, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Geography at A-level and GCSE.
Furthermore I have extensive experience preparing professionals for career interviews, essays structuring and presentation skills.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied History, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Geography at A level and at university. I received genuinely over 98% on my A levels and a joint honours degree from the University of Nottingham.
I am also a qualified military instructor, a commissioned Captain (retired) in the British Army and have been tutoring in Academy schools in London, agencies abroad and in private homes since 2014.
- How much do you charge?
I will tutor as per the prices listed but I am often happy to do some reduced price/pro bono work. Send me a message to discuss, and I will always consider a free trial lesson if the client sounds sufficiently serious.
- Where do you teach?
I tutor in London and online, at my home, in clients' homes and in public spaces. I am also willing to consider other offers. Essentially, I now tutor purely because I am passionate about it and will therefore be very interested to hear from you!
- When are you available?
I can decide my own schedule; so long as the challenge piques my interest.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have tutored all ages groups and have learned through this experience how best to really communicate with different students.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have an excellent internet connection, Skype and the ability to scan in documents and present them well via electronic media. I also have plenty of experience tutoring this way.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I understand and appreciate the great stress and pressure on students these days; especially the all too common anxiety and fear of failure. I can not only help you to overcome these issues but also improve your study skills, concentration, work ethic and, of course, your academic knowledge. I will always train you for the exam first and then, if we have time, get around to helping you to a broader education. This way you can be sure that you will get the best result you can.
