- Personal Message
- I am a senior manager working within the public sector based in London. My qualifications in the Social Sciences are supported by experience from working within government for 21 years.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My core subjects of interest fall broadly across the Humanities, with particular expertise in Sociology, Politics/Citizenship and History up to and including A level. I have a research interest in the role that religion plays in society. I also have a significant background both professionally and academically in Biology. I have previously successfully tutored across all these subjects and can provide references.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BSc (Hons) in Social Science and Politics (Open University) and a Master of Arts in Religion, Politics and Conflict, (St Mary's University College, Twickenham). I also have a BTEC HNC in Medical Science (Paddington College) and was a State Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist working in Haematology in a major London teaching hospital. I have undertaken in my own time an NVQ in Delivering Learning.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I am currently tutoring A level students in Government and Politics/Sociology and mature students undertaking under graduate and post graduate courses. Most of my teaching experience comes from the adult education sector. I teach to the syllabus and not just to pass exams. It is essential a student understands the subject and can analyse to achieve high levels of success. All of my recent students have moved up two grades in their A levels (2012 resits) and I can provide student/parent testimony to that effect
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £20 per hour for all courses. With regard travel costs, this can be negotiated with individual tutees and their parents on the first consultation visit. However this will be a minimal charge if applied (max £5) and is dependant on how easy it is to get to the address!! I prefer not to undertake group lessons and like to focus on proving a bespoke and focussed 121 session.
NB - The first consultation is always free and included within the tutoring fee will be full email and telephone support. You only pay for 121 contact time. - Where do you teach?
- I provide tutoring at the tutees home address. I live in South East London but I am very willing to travel to all locations within a 25 mile radius from Bexley (as long as I have time to get home in the evenings)!
- When are you available?
- I am available from 4pm most weekday evenings and all day at the weekend including throughout school holidays. With sufficient notice I can tutor during the day and school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I tutor all ages from 10 to 18 from KS2 to A Level depending on subject.
I also tutor and support all essay and dissertation writing to Postgraduate level and have several mature clients. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I predominantly prepare students for GCSE and A Level. However I also provide tuition in essay writing for all ages across a whole range of subjects.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have a current Enhanced CRB which expires in 2013. This will be available to view at the first visit.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I am tutoring six A level students at present some of which have been clients all this academic year. These are a mix of sociology/politics/history. I also have two post grad clients who I am supporting in writing their dissertations.

Mind Maps
Having spent many years pondering over that thorny issue of how to start an essay and having once started finding myself wandering off down a merry path into some strange world totally unrelated to the title, I discovered the fantastic invention of mind mapping software. Now I promise, I don't work for any software companies or have any...

Alex has reminded me that I need to write to thank you for the work that you did with her on the Education and Research Methods paper. She felt much more confident going into the exam, and definitely thought that she did much better this time. She particularly wanted me to thank you, and I do appreciate the time that you took particularly given the distances. I guess all of the above amounts to an ‘A’ for your performance – well done! - Christine Keates |
