About Matthew
- What kind of experience do you have?
I believe in a truly holistic approach to vocal teaching. Fundamentally, good singing is based on a solid and secure vocal technique. I am also aware that as a teacher it is my responsibility to nurture and encourage a love of music.
I work mainly on creating a traditional classical technique (beginners to advanced students). I have also taught Musical Theatre, Piano (beginner/intermediate) and Music Theory. In all disciplines I have prepared students for graded examinations both with the ABRSM and Guildhall/TrinityLaban Boards. I aim to do this by making lessons enjoyable, but still very productive, and I hope that my love of music is infectious.
Alongside technical work, I also coach on musicality, interpretation and languages (German, Italian and French). I have had a thriving private studio in London for the last four years - teaching both Singing and Piano to both female and male students between the ages of six and forty-six. Having recently graduated as a Masters student, with Distinction, from the Royal College of Music I am actively pursuing a Singing career as a Bass-Baritone both on the operatic and concert platforms. I find that teaching perfectly compliments my busy performance diary.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Matthew is an ideal teacher. He is very patient and identifies any weaknesses quickly and has systematically assisted to improve our son's singing. Matt has assisted with Andrew's piano playing when he practices accompanying himself when singing. We have found Matt to be very courteous and reliable and a talented singer himself. I would have no hesitation to recommend his as a conscientious singing teacher.
I was returning to singing after many years and was apprehensive about taking it up again. Matt turned my concern into out and out pleasure. From the moment we started working together he was both inspiring and informative. His understanding of technique is superb and his teaching method is incredibly clear and thorough. Through all this he also just fun to work with.
Thoughtful in his approach to teaching, Matt always has a wealth of analogies to help me understand and unlock different parts of the voice. His comprehensive knowledge of the physical mechanics of the voice inspires me to better understand the science behind the voice, which in turn complements his points on technique. His warm and friendly demeanour also helps make lessons a fun and worthwhile learning experience.
