About Victoria

- What kind of experience do you have?

As a singer, have extensive performing experience both as a soloist and as a member of an ensemble. The ensembles I have sung with as a soloist include Helios Chamber Opera; King's Opera; King's Baroque; The New London Opera Group; Byfield Festival Chorus; King's College Chorus; King's Alumni Light Opera Society; and King's College London Gilbert and Sullivan Society. I am also a soprano in the choir of Christ Church, Chelsea. I have experience of teaching both adults and children privately.

As a violinist, I led Bradford Youth Orchestra for three years and the King's College London Chamber Orchestra during my first year at University. I have also played as a member of King's Baroque and Yorkshire Youth Orchestra.I have experience of teaching children privately but would be more than happy to take on adult pupils.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I have studied for my undergraduate degree (BMus) at King's College, London. I have studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music with Professor Nicholas Clapton and with soprano Carol Smith in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am currently a member of The About Turn Theatre Company, with whom I have performed in operatic performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Hello! I am a soprano and violinist based in North London who is passionate about helping students to reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love of music.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I principally teach singing; however, I also teach the violin and Music Theory.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied for my undergraduate Music degree at King's College, London, and am in the final stages of completing the LRAM teaching course at the Royal Academy of Music. I have ABRSM Grade 8 Distinctions in both singing and the violin and a Grade 5 merit in the piano.

- How much do you charge?

For singing and Music Theory, I charge £20 per hour. For the violin, which is my second study, I charge £15 an hour. I am more than happy to provide a free consultation lesson for any student in order for them to decide whether or not they wish to continue to study with me. As I prefer to teach in students' homes, I am happy to travel within Zones 1-2 at no extra cost, but would charge £5 travel expenses for students living any further out of central London than this.

- Where do you teach?

I teach either at home in Belsize Park, or am happy to teach in students' homes if they are within reasonable travelling distance. It is preferable to teach somewhere with access to a keyboard/piano, so for some students, lessons could be arranged in hired practice rooms in central London (at an additional cost).

- When are you available?

I am available to teach on weekday evenings both during term time and during the school holidays; dates can be discussed with each individual student.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

For singing, I am happy to teach all levels from beginners to ABRSM Grade 8 standard. There is no upper age limit for this; for children, I would generally recommend a lower age limit of 8 years old, but as singing is very much connected to physical development and to levels of maturity the case is different for each child. If a student and their parents are unsure whether singing lessons are right for them at any stage, I would of course be happy to offer a free consultation lesson.

For the violin, I am happy to teach levels from beginner to approximately ABRSM Grade 5/6. Again, there is no upper age range for this, and I would be happy to teach children from primary school Year One age upwards.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

This can be discussed with the student (and parents, if applicable). The ABRSM Grade exams are a good way to mark the progress being made in lessons, but I am also a firm believer in helping students to become well-rounded musicians and to have fun in lessons. For me, these are ultimately more beneficial in musical development than to focus entirely on progressing through graded exams as quickly as possible. Therefore, although I am of course more than happy to teach students who wish to work towards exams, I would be equally delighted to teach students who simply want to learn as a hobby and in order to have fun in their spare time.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

If you want to get a better understanding of music and have fun doing it, there's no better place to start than learning to sing. Singing is not only a gateway into learning about music, but has also been proven to help reduce stress levels and provide other health benefits while being an enormous source of enjoyment. If this sounds good to you, please do get in touch!
