About Gillian
- What kind of experience do you have?
Gillian began studying music at the Liverpool Arts Centre, previously Greenbank. Whilst there Gillian studied voice, music history/genre, general musicianship, harmony, composition and music theory with Dr. Glyn Williams. Gillian progressed from one course to another until eventually leaving there with, amongst other qualifications, a HND (Distinction) in Performing Arts, which strengthens her understanding of musical theatre, the voice and the mind of the performer. Gillian also had the privilege of studying composition with composers, Steve Martland at the RNCM and Steven Montague at the Liverpool Philharmonic. Gillian then went on to study music at Liverpool Hope University. Here Gillian specialized in voice and performance with international Mezzo Soprano Vanessa Williamson. Gillian also continued studying harmony/composition, songwriting and performance with Professor Stephen Pratt and Tony Shorrocks, head of performance with The University of Liverpool. Gillian graduated from University with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Music. Since leaving University Gillian has continued on a path of personal development studying vocal pedoagogy

- Where and with whom did you train?
Gillian studied IT applications for music including Sibelius and Cubase. · Worked alongside American composer Steven Montague teaching compositional techniques to GCSE pupils at Liverpool Philharmonic Education Department. · Studied music composition alongside composer Steve Martland at RNCM. · Taught basic music theory, instrument making/playing and took singing practise with year one pupils at Knotty Ash Primary School. · Observed Music Therapist and taught singing, instrument playing and took part in concerts for special needs children at Milstead and Springfield Schools. Completed two modules in psychology/sociology and music therapy at the Open Space Centre with Music Therapist Mary Clayton. · Studied Community Music. · Assisted members of the Welsh National Opera to deliver community workshop for the Dark Horse Venture, a project for the elderly. · Studied all aspects of voice including articulation, delivery, diction annunciation, languages and performance with international soprano Vanessa Williamson. · Studied composition, music genre, music history and music analysis with Professor Stephen Pratt and Dr Glynn Williams. · Publicized, promoted, sold tickets and took part in front of house duties for recitals, helped students put together and perform lunchtime and evening pop, rock and jazz concerts at Liverpool Arts Centre.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Gillian has ten years' experience working with children and choirs teaching peripatetically in schools throughout the Liverpool and Merseyside area and has a 100% pass record with students who have studied with the ABRSM graded vocal syllabus. Presently, she works with a diverse set of students including; primary aged children, eager amateur singers, performing arts students, band members and professional singers. As well as teaching privately, she is the singing teacher at music schools throughout Merseyside and holds a fully enhanced DBS certificate. Gillian is of a very warm, approachable, easy-going nature, which helps her get the best out of her students whether they are just enthusiastic beginners, a jobbing band member or a professional. All lessons are backed up with hand-outs, backing tracks and cds, which are included in the price of the lesson.

BA Hons (2:1) Music/Information Technology, HND (Distinction) Performing Arts, PPCM (Distinction), ICM (Merit), Music A Level, Music GCSE.
- How much do you charge?
For singing lessons, Gillian charges £12.50 per half hour for adults and £10.00 per half hour for children under 14 years old, the same for piano lessons, . For music theory (ABRSM exams), she charges £7.50 per half hour and charges £5.00 per child Early Years music based on a group of 8 children.
- Where do you teach?
Gillian teaches in her own music room in Allerton, Liverpool. She also teaches at Musical Allsorts, Widnes Masonic Hall, Merseyside.
- When are you available?
Gillian is available for half hour and 1 hour slots between the hours of 9am - 9pm, Monday - Saturday.

Gillian teaches all ages and abilities. You can take the ABRSM, Trinity or Rockschool graded examinations, or learn just for fun.
