About Siobhan
- What kind of experience do you have?
I've been teaching music for 5 years now, and with the help of my own teachers over the years I've learnt the tricks of the trade.
My experiences with a wide range of pupils has helped me become an imaginative tutor, able to work well with different personalities. I'm adaptable, and I have experience working with people with learning difficulties.
I enjoy teaching complete beginners, and have built up a library of resources for those starting from scratch.
I have experience teaching flute at a post grade 8 level, and preparing students for performances, auditions, and exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied flute at the Royal Academy of Music as part of my degree.

If you're looking for flute tuition, I'd be happy to help, and I'm offering a half price trial lesson for the start of the school year.
I enjoy sharing my passion for music with my students, and I deliver engaging and inspiring lessons as a result.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach flute, piano, and music theory.
My approach is student-centred, so I support my students in making their own creative decisions, and my main goal is for my students to gain a sense of achievement and enjoyment from their studies. Although my background is in classical music, I think contemporary/pop really complements a classical training, and I deliver a curriculum based on each individual student's interests, often making arrangements of songs on request.
The importance of learning to play with other musicians is often under-appreciated, so duets and improvisation are central to my teaching. I incorporate aural training and music theory, because they facilitate a deeper understanding of music. I also encourage my students to compose their own music, and provide support with this.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied music at King's College London (BMus), and received tuition at the Royal Academy of Music. After my undergrad, I studied for a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in flute teaching (LRAM), which I was awarded with distinction in 2015. For this diploma I wrote about how one can teach an expressive way of playing, and I studied different methods such as Kodaly, Dalcroze and Suzuki.

My daughter is really enjoying her lessons with Siobhan and looks forward to it each week. I particularly like Siobhan's approach which is to teach beginners by 'ear' to encourage students to pitch the note correctly.
Siobhan communicates clearly with me and is always punctual and nice to have in my home. I would highly recommend her.View more recommendations
