- Personal Message
- Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player with specific technical issues I have the knowledge and experience to help.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach violin, mandolin, music theory and English as a foreign language.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have both master's (MMus) and bachelor's (BMus hons) degrees from Trinity College of Music and a Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from International House.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught violin and mandolin privately for a number of years. Additionally, I have taught in orchestral and group workshops and done supply work for colleagues teaching group classes.
I am also a freelance violinist and mandolinist and have performed with many different orchestras and ensembles over the years. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £25 per hour and £15 for half an hour. I add £5 to these fees if I travel to your home.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach primarily from my home in Deptford but can travel for free to anywhere close by such as Greenwich, Isle of Dogs, Lewisham, Brockley, Peckham, Southwark etc. For an extra £5 I can visit you anywhere else in London or Croydon.
- When are you available?
- I am generally free during the day on weekdays and weekends. As a freelance musician my schedule is far from regular since I am involved with many different projects, however, a regular lesson time can usually be worked out. The best thing to do is to discuss it over the phone.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and abilities.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I can prepare students for the grade examinations with ABRSM or Trinity-Guildhall. I can do this for both instrumental and theory students.
Additionally, I can prepare EFL students for language examinations. - Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have had CRB disclosure in the past for schools I have taught in. At present I am not teaching in any institution which requires me to have a certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained as a violinist with Clare Thompson at Trinity College of Music. I received chamber music coaching from Michael Bochmann at the same institution. Also whilst at Trinity I had some lessons on mandolin with Alison Stephens.
I completed my TEFL course at International House London

As a violin teacher and a student myself, I have found that attaining the correct balance of repertoire and exercises is vital to development. Some students will require more attention to technical detail whilst others are better able to work on these aspects themselves and require more artistic direction from their teacher. Properly...
