About Gaëlle-Anne

- What kind of experience do you have?

Since I was 16, I have been teaching every summer at the Courchevel 1650 Academy in France. Here I have a dozen of students, between 5 and 18 years old, and I give them solo, chamber music, and even orchestral repertoire classes. I always aim to create a very friendly, familial, encouraging atmosphere. A good teacher learns from their students, and it is always a great pleasure and inspiration for me to see how my pupils are improving.

In Southbank Sinfonia, I have played a key role in many educational projects, leading workshops in schools, making music with primary and secondary school children, presenting Saturday Spectacular concerts and even creating our own family show for the Windsor Festival. Consequently, I am fully prepared for any kind of teaching scenario that may be required.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

No, I do not have a CRB

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained in Geneva for six years, until I moved in London last January to work for Southbank Sinfonia. My teachers were Ms Marie-Annick Nicolas, a wonderful soloist who helped me to improve my stage skills; and then Mr Tedi Papavrami, a outstanding artist, who guided me from the state of student to the one of musician.
Before that, I had the chance to study for four years with Jean Ter-Merguerian, who was the disciple and assistant of the famous David Oistrakh

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am currently a member of Southbank Sinfonia, a wonderful orchestra of young professionals embarking on a career after completing postgraduate study. Here I have developed many insights and knowledge of musical styles to share with my students.
I am also a member of the Camerata Alma Viva, a string ensemble of talented and passionate young musicians ; I am an extra player in the OSR since 2011, and a member of the OIG (International Orchestra of Geneva).

My name is Gaëlle-Anne, I am a 22 year old French violinist - willing and able to teach anyone, from beginners to experts, and share with you my enthusiasm, energy and passion for music!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach the violin, which is my main instrument, and the viola. The techniques for these two instruments are very similar, and even though I did not spend as much time in learning the viola as in learning the violin, I love both of these instruments and I equally enjoy teaching one or the other !

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I currently possess two Masters qualifications: one Solist Diploma earned in 2008, and one Master of Orchestra earned in 2011, both with the maximal grade of 6/6 and the distinctions of the jury. The first one involved training as a soloist; I had to play for three recitals of 75 minutes, including one with orchestra where I performed a concerto, and take part in international competitions. The second was to gain experience as an orchestra player; I had to participate in many concerts with professional orchestras such as the OSR (Orchestra of Suisse Romande). The combination of both Masters has prepared me well to be a fully-rounded teacher

- How much do you charge?

I charge 35 pounds an hour for a violin lesson, and 30 pounds an hour for teaching the viola.

- Where do you teach?

I can either teach at my home or in any other venue the student wants me to; my house is big and very quiet, inhabited only by musicians, so playing will never be a problem there! I make arrangements so that no one else is practising in the house during the lesson, if the student is willing to come to my home.

- When are you available?

I am generally available every day, including weekends, from 8.00am to 8.00 pm, except on occasions when I have performances but will always work with students to find a suitable alternative time when such things arise.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I can teach any ages and levels ; as I said in my answer to question 3), I am used to teaching small children – which in my opinion is the most difficult yet rewarding aspect of teaching ! I am also very happy to teach more experienced pupils.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I am very happy to prepare students for any exams or qualifications, if they are starting to work towards Associated Board exams or preparing for music college, or anything else.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Everyone in my family is a musician and, as far as I can remember, I have been teaching my two little sisters to play almost as much as I was learning from my teachers! Maybe that is why teaching feels such a natural thing for me to do.
I am willing and able to teach anyone, from beginners to experts, and share with you my enthusiasm, energy and passion for music!
