About Josephine
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching part time for Manchester Music Service for 4 years. My work with the music service includes teaching in primary and secondary schools throughout Manchester as well as directing the Manchester Central and Manchester Youth String Orchestras. I also teach the violin and viola at Giggleswick Junior and Senior School. On Saturday I teach at the Sheffield Music Academy where I primarily teach viola, provide chamber music coaching and co-direct numerous larger ensembles. I successfully balance my extensive teaching commitments with a varied freelance career. I regularly play with professional orchestras throughout the North of England and Wales including the Orchestra of Opera North and Manchester Camerata.

I am in possession of numerous recent and valid CRB certificates through my work with different schools.

I belong to the Musicians Union and ESTA - European String Teachers Association.

Of all the work I do as a professional musician, nothing inspires me more than passing on my skills and knowledge to others. I have a flexible teaching style as I believe every pupil is an individual case. Teaching enthuses my love for music!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the violin and viola to all ages of children and adults from beginner to post grade 8 standard. I am also able to provide beginner piano lessons, theory, aural and musicianship training.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
In 2010 I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Music from the Royal Northern College of Music. I continued with my studies at the RNCM to postgraduate level resulting in a Diploma in Solo Music Performance with Distinction. I am currently training towards the Certificate in Dalcroze Eurythmics.
- How much do you charge?
£27 per hour - 30 and 45 minute lessons also available. If I am required to travel outside of the Heatons there will be a small travel charge depending on mileage. I am a competent pianist and like to accompany my pupils in exams and competitions, there is no extra charge for this service.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at home as I have access to all my many teaching resources! I am able to travel to students' homes if necessary. I am based in Sale and I can travel throughout Manchester, Cheshire and Sheffield.
- When are you available?
I am currently not available on Monday and Tuesday but I aim to be as flexible as possible with other days in the week/weekend. I only teach in Sheffield on a Saturday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, all levels. Beginner to post grade 8. My specialist area is post grade 6 viola. I can prepare students for grade 5 theory exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I expect my pupils to work hard and achieve great things, but most importantly they must enjoy themselves and fall in love with making music.
