- I am a trained English teacher and A Level examiner with twelve years experience. I also write short fiction and have recently finished an MA in Creative Writing. I love teaching English and have developed a wealth of strategies to help students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach A Level English Literature, English Literature & Language, and English Language and have experience of the major exam boards. I am especially knowledgeable on AQA's requirements as I currently examine the A2 English Literature A spec paper, Love Through the Ages. I also teach GCSE English Literature and Language, KS3 and KS2 English. I also teach Academic and Business English to students whose first language is not English.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I hold an MA in Creative Writing from Birkbeck College, University of London, and an MA in International Cinema, a PGCE (English 11-19), and a BA in English Literature (2:1) from Sheffield University, which is a Russell Group University. I gained two As and two Bs at A level and I also achieved Grade 8 Piano, and Grade 8 Flute with distinction.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I completed teacher training in 2000 and taught in South Yorkshire in a secondary school and a sixth form college for several years before moving to London. In 2006, I took up a post at Havering Sixth Form College where I taught for nearly four years, including two years as English Literature Course Leader from 2008 - 2010. In 2010, after occasional tutoring alongside my teaching posts, I turned to tutoring as my main occupation and have since tutored students ranging from Y4 through to Y12, and some adults. I have worked as an A Level English Literature examiner for AQA since 2005. I write articles for e-magazine, a publication aimed at A Level English students.
- How much do you charge?
- I usually charge £30 per hour.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at students' homes in and around Hackney. I can travel to Islington, Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets, Newham, The City, East and West Central London, Haringey, Camden and Waltham Forest. I sometimes meet students at mutually convenient venues, such as Whitechapel Library, The Barbican or Angel.
- When are you available?
- I am currently available on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and some evenings, Thursday afternoons and some evening times in the Whitechapel area, and Friday day-times. However, please get in touch to check my latest availability. I can also sometimes offer extra sessions during holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach students aged 7 up to adults.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- I hold an enhanced CRB dated November 2010.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have had many success stories, including a student who has recently taken up a place to read Anthropology at Durham after increasing her C grade at AS to an A overall in English Literature and Language (AQA B). My current students include a high-achieving Y9 student who is beginning preparations for her GCSEs, a family of enthusiastic KS2 children in Y4 and Y5 who I am helping with reading and writing skills, and a Y11 boy who is out of school and preparing for GCSE English.
