Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Art and Design for all ages and levels up to Postgraduate level. (I particularly specialise in drawing, illustration and sequential imagery.) I am able to teach a range of Art & Design skills including Interview Coaching and Portfolio Advice for Further and Higher Education. Each lesson is tailored to the individual. I also teach Creative Writing. - Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I trained at The Royal College of Art in MA Communication Art & Design. I have a First Class BA (hons) degree in Graphic Design (Illustration) and a National Diploma in Fine Art. I have also studied Creative Writing at The Imperial College in London and The Arvon Foundation.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught many private students successfully and have taught classes and courses for clients including Islington Arts Factory, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Thames Valley Summer Schools, The Royal Veterinary College, Wandsworth Arts Festival, Wandsworth Council, Eastside Educational Trust, Creative Partnerships, Bournemouth Arts Institute and The University of Westminster. I also have experience teaching art in Primary Schools. References can be provided on request.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 p/h plus travel expenses. I am happy to teach more than one student at a time, the fee for this is usually £5-10 extra per hour, per additional student, depending on your tuition requirements.
For blocks of lessons (for example a whole term) you will receive a lesson schedule, an invoice and the option to pay for the term in full or to break the cost into weekly or monthly payments. I can take payment by cash, cheque or BACs and you will receive a reciept and confirmation of your booking.
If you are a school/college and would like to hire me to teach a class or course - please get in touch as there is a special rate for this, I also offer a special rate for charities
Where do you teach?
I am happy to visit the student(s) at home, or alternatively they can visit me.* (A pet and smoke free, clean light and airy apartment in Wimbledon.) Nearest train station is Raynes Park, or tube station is Wimbledon. There is a good local bus service from Central London and Surrey. Free parking is available right outside.
*If you are visiting me then basic professional art materials and equipment are included in the hourly fee.
When are you available?
I teach Monday - Friday, days and evenings. I am also available in school holidays*. It is usually best to book in advance as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, but I always do my best to fit in last minute urgent requests where I can.
*I am currently taking bookings for lessons and courses during the spring and summer holidays. Many people like to use this time to improve their portfolio or to learn a particular skill (eg portraiture or drawing) or for those children who have been affected by the government's decision to reduce time on art education in schools, the holidays are an invaluable period to 'top up'.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages, abilities and levels up to postgraduate. You do not need to be pursuing an academic qualification to have lessons. The majority of my current students have lessons for leisure or as extra lessons on top of their school/college work. Each lesson is tailored to your requirements.
Do you have a CRB disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
This normally doesn't work for Art & Design, however I have taught on-line for Writing. It would be best to contact me about this. If you decide to become one of my regular students you can contact me by e-mail with any queries between lessons.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of The Royal College of Art's alumni, a member of Norwich University College of the Arts's alumni, a tutor at Islington Arts Factory, Thames Valley Summer Schools, Eastside Educational Trust & Creative Partnerships. I am also a visiting lecturer at The University of Westminster and Bournemouth Arts Institute.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at The Royal College of Art. Tutors included: Debbie Cook, Andrzej Klimowski, Anne Howeson and Quentin Blake. http://www.rca.ac.uk/ I also studied writing at The Imperial College with Kathryn Merris and Eva Salzman, and at The Arvon Foundation with Caroline Lawrence and Karen Hayes.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I am currently working with a range of students of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.
Please get in touch for a free telephone consultation to discuss your requirements.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My aim as your tutor is to discover what you want to achieve and see how we can work together to reach your goals. I am a naturally friendly tutor, with lots of energy and enthusiasm for the creative subjects I teach. I like to get to know my students and devise a lesson plan that helps them grow as an individual as well as an artist. We can also go on trips and visit relevant events to enhance your education. Recent educational trips I have taken my students on include the V&A, London Zoo, The Natural History Museum, The Tate Britain, The Royal Academy, The Royal College of Art and other smaller galleries and bookshops. As a practicing artist myself, I am actively involved in the industry and can give you professional advice and direction as well as teaching your usual lessons.
For my younger students, I find that my experience in leading courses and events and writing and illustrating for children's books for this age group makes me a popular tutor. I have oodles of imagination and can keep them occupied for hours with my varied lesson plans for small attention spans!
I look forward to working with you.
