- Personal Message
- I encourage pupils to be ambitious and achieve their best. I believe this requires a holistic approach where developing self confidence and motivation is as important as improving understanding.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach all sciences as well as mathematics to GCSE. I teach Biology and Chemistry to A level and Biology and Medical Science to undergraduate level. Undergraduates please note that I specialize in genetics, immunology, cell biology and biochemistry. I will not be able to tutor anatomy.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a qualified teacher with a PGCE in secondary science education. I have a first class honours degree in Medical Biochemistry from King's College London with research experience at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research. This degree had a particularly strong focus on molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, genetics and immunology. I have A levels in Biology (A), Chemistry (B), Mathematics (B) and French (B).
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been tutoring at KS3, GCSE, A level and undergraduate level both privately and for commercial tutoring agencies. I have always found tutees to be highly motivated and comments from both tutees and their parents have been positive with tutees making good progress over the course of their tuition with me.
- How much do you charge?
- KS3 and GCSE - £25 per hour
A level - £30 per hour
Undergraduate - £35 per hour - Where do you teach?
- I mostly teach at pupils' homes for the pupil's convenience though I am willing to tutor at my home. Please note that I will require a parent or carer to be present for the duration of the tuition if the tutee is under 16.
- When are you available?
- I am available to tutor weekdays after 6pm and at weekends in the morning. I always try to be flexible and tutor at the pupil's convenience.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- As a teacher I teach KS3, GCSE and A level. I also tutor undergraduates and mature learners seeking to build upon their own learning or learn something new.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- As a tutor I do not teach tutees to simply pass exams, I teach them to get prepared for the next level of their education.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have an up to date enhanced CRB check.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I am willing to tutor by e-mail. Tutees please note that whilst this is convenient it is considerably less effective than tuition in person.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I undertook my teacher training (PGCE) at St Mary's University College London, which has an excellent reputation for teacher training. Both of my teaching placements were at Catholic schools rated Outstanding by OFSTED and gave me experience in teaching SEN pupils including one inspirational young lady who was blind and for whom I had to carefully differentiate my resources and lesson plans.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I am currently tutoring a young lady to help her achieve a grade C in her AS Chemistry resits. This is a bright pupil and improving exam technique and self confidence will be the key to helping her achieve and possibly beating her grade C target. I have just finished tutoring a 12 year old young man whose parents have just relocated from Australia and will begin secondary school this term. With this young man the aim was to develop self confidence in mathematics and I did this by encouraging him to approach math problems as if he were a detective. At the end of the tuition his parents were pleased with his progress.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Tutoring is an excellent opportunity for you to improve yourself and achieve your goals. It is most effective when you give your best effort and use this opportunity to make the most of your potential.
