- My passion is good use of English for all! Qualified in written and spoken Use of English, I teach all nationalities and age ranges. I am also a Chartered Marketer.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My specialist subject is English, Speech & Drama and all related areas. I use this background to help people build confidence in how they communicate in numerous ways; be it preparing for a job interview, looking for promotion at work, in social situations or for their own personal development. That's why the way in which you communicate is as important as what you say. So, in order to offer all round achievement, I coach in public speaking, presentations, and elocution. It's important to be the best you can in our very competitive world and that is where my experience and expertise comes in! My experience at senior level in corporate life enables me to give you the edge when it comes to CV writing and job applications because I know what employers are looking for and I can prepare you to be at your best for interview. As a Chartered Marketer, I have diverse experience in all aspects of B2B marketing and corporate communications and have made significant contributions to the building of a global organisation.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing Additionally I have qualifications as an Associate of the London College of Music for Speech & Drama.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I've been teaching both children and adults over a number of years. Requirements have all been different but working together we have achieved significant improvements varying from reading, comprehension and essay writing. Vocal coaching has included working on regional accents, pronunciation and articulation. A great deal of enquiries now centre around confidence building and personal development - as the job market becomes increasingly more competitive, everyone is looking at how to stand out from the crowd and I provide insight into how to differentiate yourself.
Teaching English to overseas students has been an increasing area of work over the past few years and I like to include a variety of teaching methods to achieve the best results. Additionally, I have over 10 years post-qualification experience as a Chartered Marketer and have worked in large public and private sector organisations in a communications and marketing capacity. My experience includes internal and corporate communications as well as preparing customer-focused marketing and communications material. - How much do you charge?
- My charges are around £25-£35 per hour for all English related teaching. Marketing teaching and review of all material is around £35 per hour depending on complexity and duration of tasks. An initial consultation lesson will include free additional time to ensure that we establish required outcomes and goals! Group lessons of 2 individuals or more will also be discounted by arrangement. Depending on location from my home address, there will be charge for travel which will be agreed in advance.
- Where do you teach?
- I mainly teach at home in a quiet location just outside Tunbridge Wells, Kent but can make arrangements to teach in a student's home if required.
- When are you available?
- I can be flexible regarding availability and may be able to offer times during the evenings or at weekends. If there is a need for an intensive course to take place quickly to meet a particular deadline, this too can usually be arranged to suit.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I am entirely at ease teaching children, young students and adults. The most important thing for a student is to be relaxed and able to learn and retain information. I use a number of teaching techniques, depending on the age and preference of learning style.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have an up-to-date CRB disclosure certificate.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I can interact with students on Skype and receive documents over email.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- Profiles of current students include youngsters wanting to improve their reading capability in order to progress with general schoolwork, young adults who are working on their confidence levels by improving their spoken word by taking a short course of elocution lessons to help them present themselves in both school and work environments.
Increasingly there is a need for me to provide classes designed to help with securing employment or promotion at work - that combines a number of areas for improvement and is tailored to individual needs.
I have also had numerous overseas students who have worked with me to achieve significant improvement in their oral and written communication for business purposes. - Do you have a personal message for students?
- It's important to give yourself the opportunity to be the best you can be and to present yourself well. I work with you to devise a programme that sets out to achieve your goals and build confidence.
