Learning a musical instrument should be fun and inspiring and help bring out creativity in all areas of life.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach electric and acoustic guitar, focussing on learning songs, soloing, harmony, theory, sight reading, fingerpicking, rhythm playing, Rock and Pop and all styles of popular music through to advanced Jazz studies.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at Birmingham Conservatoire where I gained a Bmus Hons in Jazz performance.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have over 10 years teaching experience in both one-to-one and group teaching settings, and 23 years of playing experience. Privately, I have tutored adults and children of all abilities, and I have also worked in a variety of different primary and secondary school environments when teaching through music services in the past and feel comfortable with students of all ages and abilities.

As a musician performing professionally throughout the UK, my knowledge of a diverse range of musical styles has influenced my teaching approach and helps me to provide students with the necessary guidance and support to aid their learning and development so that they can get the most out of music and the guitar. Here are some of the places and venues that I have played at: The Jazz Cafe (London), The British Museum, Birmingham Symphony hall, St Pauls Jazz festival (France), Paradise Jazz festival (Cyprus), Vienne Jazz festival (France), Cheltenham Jazz festival, and the Vortex (London)
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 an hour and £20 for half an hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Hither Green SE13 near Lewisham but am also willing to travel to students
who are close to me like Lee, Greenwich, Catford and others in the south east London area.
When are you available?
Mornings and evenings throughout the week, I also teach throughout the school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach both children and adults from beginners to advanced.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for Rock School examinations through grades 1-8
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Yes, I play in a variety of different creative projects in London and throughout the UK
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with Phil Robson, Dave Cliff, Fred Baker and Mike Outram.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I feel music begins with both imagination and creativity. The lessons with me will work on using this to work towards your own personal goals and interests. I am a friendly and experienced teacher and cater for all levels of ability and styles which will really help students to develop at their own pace, whilst always making learning and playing music fun. I usually work with students to improve their overall guitar playing and musicianship, mixing technical and theory topics, but applying these in a fun 'real' way through learning a repertoire of real songs and music styles.
