Personal Message
I am a professional music teacher, pianist and composer working in London who enjoys teaching music to people of all ages and passing on my wealth of experience.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, composition, music theory, songwriting and also GCSE and A Level music.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MMus Degree, with distinction and Dip. RAM from the Royal Academy of Music and a BMus (Hons) 1st Class degree.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have a great deal of experience tutoring music students at all levels in piano, theory and composition through private one-to-one tuition, weekly group keyboard classes, regular freelance work at Junior Trinity College of Music in London and various undergraduate/GCSE/A Level Mentoring schemes in Birmingham. I have also worked on inspirational education projects with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Swan bringing music to local schools in the community. My current students range from ages 5 through to 80 years old!

My work as a dedicated music teacher is backed up by my work as a professional musician. As a composer my music has been played regularly throughout Britain and in Europe. I have held the Manson Fellowship, and also the Mendelssohn Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2010 I held the position of Composer in Residence on the Liturgical Music Courses held at Winchester Cathedral. My experience as a tutor and as a musician are supported by the awards I have been given for my work which include the Charles Lucas Prize in 2011, the Alan Bush Prize in 2010, a British Council Scholarship, the Lena Pritchard Green Award, the Charles Black Fellowship and other awards from The Mendelssohn Foundation, The Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the AHRC and The Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust. My music has been performed by the Tête à Tête Opera Festival, St Paul's Cathedral, the Southbank Sinfonia, the Sainsbury Royal Academy Soloists, Exaudi, the London Sinfonietta, Wildscreen, the Orchestra of the Swan, Highcliffe Choir, The Mid Wales Music Week Festival, The Warehouse Ensemble, The Swift Ensemble and The New Century Players.
How much do you charge?
I charge £40 for 1 hour lessons and £22 for 30 minute lessons. If you live in Zones 1 - 5 in London, I won't charge you any extra for travel. There are discounts available for groups of lessons booked in advance.
Where do you teach?
I can either teach you in own home, or at my apartment, depending on what suits you best. I can travel to all Zones in London and Greater London.
When are you available?
Being a freelance music teacher, my timetable is very flexible, so I can often work around your own schedule! I teach in the day and during the evening in regular weekly slots.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages from around the age of 5 all the way through to adult students. I teach piano and music theory from beginner to Grade 1 through to Grade 8. I teach all levels of music in the national curriculum, including GCSE students and A level students.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I work with ABRSM piano and theory grades and all GSCE and A Level syllabuses.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes - Valid from February 2012.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am able to answer specific questions or provide guidance in all subjects via email.
Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Academy of Music
