- Master of Music (MMus) in Piano Performance from Guildhall School of Music and Drama
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music from Osaka College of Music
Teaching Certificate (PGCS equivalent) in Music from Osaka College of Music - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have over 10 years of teaching experience: I have taught students of all levels: from beginners (both children and adults) to advanced students. I believe that teaching is the most exciting things - I learn many things from students and each of them are very inspiring!
I have lots of performance experience both in Japan and in the UK and I think that I would be able to inspire my pupils by performing and also I would be able to give something special to them in lessons.
I have been studying the Alexander Technique for 8 years both in Japan and UK and I use Alexander Technique in my playing and introduce it to my pupils. Using Alexander Technique allows you to connect your instrument and music more deeply and let yourself express truly. It also helps you learn in a way that is healthy for your body, easy and comfortable.
I design my lessons differently depending on students as all of them are different! I believe that teachers should guide them in order to let them realise their potential and musicality -true themselves.Because there are so many factors which easily interrupt students ability, I would like to support students in as many aspects as I can so that students can open up! Circumstances should be very friendly and supportive. Musically, I focus on the basics because once a student understands those, they can take music in their own direction! Especially I think that listening is very important and also I'll ask you what you want to convey in music. - How much do you charge?
- At My studio Piano lesson/30 min 20 pounds
/45 min 30 pounds
/1 hr 35 pounds
/ 1 hr &half 50 pounds
I can travel to your home, but will ask you to refund my time and travel expenses. - Where do you teach?
- I teach at my studio in Wimbledon. There I have a lovely grand piano(Schimmel)which I'm sure you'll like! I also come to East London like Mile End and Leytonstone every Thursday. So please ask me any vacancy for Thursday in East London.
Also I'm happy to give you lessons at your home - I would just need to charge the necessary expenses for time and travel. - When are you available?
- I'm available from 3 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday to Saturday
10 to 8 pm on Monday
Let me know when is convenient for you! - Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach beginners to advanced students of any age.
Adults who are total beginners, or who used to play and stopped but want to play again are most welcome!! - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I don't believe that grade examinations are so important, but they can help students get motivated so I'm happy to help you with them.
I teach both ABRSM and Trinity Grade exams but I prefer ABRSM. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- I taught at schools in Japan where a CRB isn't necessary - I have the equivalent to a PGCS from Japan
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I'm a member of the Kansai Society of Musicians which aims to enhance the quality of classical music in the Kansai area of Japan, and gives lots of concerts.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I started learning piano with Mie Kasahara when I was 7 years old. Since I was a child, I loved dancing and singing!
I studied with Yasuko Takeya and Hiromi Koide at Osaka college of Music for my undergraduate study.
During my undergraduate study, I developed RSI and it was hard time for me. Then I found Alexander Technique is good for musicians especially who is suffering physical problem so I started learning Alexander Technique after graduating. I cured RSI which I was suffering for 6 years but also I developed piano technique and musicality fundamentally. I found I don't have to force or make music to sing- music itself wants to sing- what we need is just releasing it. I came to be able feel music and composers much closer through my musical experience. And I realised that I have a lot of potential which I hadn't noticed that I have.
I moved to London on 2010 and studied with Peter Bithell and Nelly Ben-or who is a senior Alexander Technique teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I'm continuing the journey of playing piano using Alexander Technique as it always reveals new possibilities towards releasing true potential in order to be in music.
Now I'm studying Alexander technique in teacher training course with John Hunter and Dorothea Magonet and I'm going to qualify this summer 2013 by StAT. - Tell me about some of your current students.
- One of my most current students is a total beginner but really keen to learn playing music! It's fun to work with with her because I always get inspired by how she enjoys becoming able to play new pieces. It makes me remember the pure joy of playing music!
Another student is a 6 year old girl who likes playing pieces of Bach and Prokofiev and Kabalevsky for children. We started learning together one year ago, and I've been amazed by her progress! Young children learn so quickly! We enjoy singing and playing rhythm games as well.
Other students include a teenager who is considering applying to music college - they are similar to me, and I would like to encourage and support them as much as I can! And of course, we get on really well! - Do you have a personal message for students?
- Music is open to everyone. Music is for expressing who you are. Everyone has their own soul that is waiting to be released through music.
I hope that I can help you to learn music with a lot of fun!!
