- Mobile piano and violin tutor
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach piano, violin and music theory up to grade 5.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a Grade 7 distinction in ABRSM pianoforte and am currently working towards my Grade 8. I am grade 8 standard on the the violin and have Grade 5 theory of music.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have many years experience of playing piano and violin for my own pleasure and several years of teaching experience. At school and college I played violin in the Somerset County Youth Orchestra then went on to join the Somerset County Orchestra. I have for some years now sang soprano with the Somerset Chamber Choir and have both played and sang at Wells Cathedral on numerous occasions. I have done session work on violin with a number of bands and singer-songwriters based in London. Currently I play violin in folk-pop band 6 Day Riot.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge a base rate of £30 per hour and £18 for 30 minutes. I charge extra for travel outside of my local area.
- Where do you teach?
- I travel to teach you in the comfort of your own home. I cover Sutton, Cheam, South Croydon, East Croydon, Sanderstead, Purley Oaks, Kenley, Thornton Heath, Selhurst, Selsdon area.
- When are you available?
- I'm available during the week and the occasional weekend.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach beginners and intermediates of any age.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare students for the ABRSM exams. These go from Grade 1-8. To date every pupil I have entered for these exams has achieved a merit or above. I am pretty flexible with my lessons so if a student is more interested in jazz, rock or popular musicals then I prepare lessons accordingly. Everyone is individual and has their own particular tastes.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I learnt classical piano from the age of 9. On the violin I started off learning Suzuki violin method from age 10, moving into more classically taught lessons as I got older. The Suzuki violin method is good for enhancing memory, playing by ear and general musicality however it does have the disadvantage of not preparing students for sight-reading, scales and orchestra playing.
